Course Overview
This course is ideal for students who have completed a Level 3 qualification and need intensive, performance-focused training to prepare for drama school or further develop your own practice as you create your own pathway into the industry.
This highly practical course is taught by professionals whose advice and guidance will support your creative ambitions. Throughout the year, specialised workshops from puppetry to acting for the camera will be added to your sessions to ensure you develop a rounded skill set to better equip you to enter the profession and aim for employability.
Whilst training, you will work as a small-scale theatre company with performance at the core of your learning.
The course is delivered over 2 days at our Arts & Media Campus, and offers highly practical actor training.
The course is in 3 Units:
Unit 1 - Applied Professional Practice
This unit will introduce you to the realities of a professional working environment. It will equip you with rehearsal and professional practice standards required within the industry. You will focus on audition preparation and selecting those all-important audition speeches working towards a showcase with an invited panel of professionals.
Unit 2 - Specialist Performance Technique
In this unit, you will participate in a range of performance activities to develop your performance technique. You will advance your skill levels across various performance styles from classical to contemporary scene study and explore actor methodologies from Michael Chekhov to Uta Hagen.
Unit 3 - Specialist Performance Project
The focus of this final unit is for you to realise your professional performance ambitions by instigating, rehearsing, and performing in a specialist performance project to a public audience.
Assessment will be through an electronic portfolio documenting your training and performance journey.
Entry Requirements
This course requires either a level 3 qualification, A-Levels or experience as a performer, as well as a successful audition.
Adult applicants without the qualification entry will be based on audition and interview.
After Your Course
The qualification will support students to develop a portfolio of work, enabling them to progress to
higher education courses, further/conservatoire training, employment/self-employment.
You may progress to roles in the creative industries, such as:

- Musical Theatre
- Musician
- Director
- Dramaturg
- Choreographer
- Musical Director

The fee displayed is the course fee. Course fees are per year.
Other costs may be associated with this course, e.g., kit, equipment, books, trips, etc. Financial support may be available to support you with these. See the Student Money pages for more information.
Courses fees
The current full-time & degree-level fee information is related to the 2024/25 academic year.
Level 3-6 Courses
Advanced Learning Loans are available for students aged 19 or over and studying eligible level 3, 4, 5 & 6 courses. If you are on an Access course, the loan will be written off if you complete a degree.
It is also possible to pay in full or via instalments.
Performing Arts, Level 4 - This course is free if you are aged 18 on 31/08/2024.
