Unlocking Potential - Transforming Lives - Creating Bright Futures

This mission statement defines the purpose of the college, and excellence, employability and enterprise are at our heart. This has a direct effect on the experience that you get as a student:

Vision

We will provide outstanding education and training opportunities that are responsive to the needs of our students and our community. All our actions will help develop our students to deliver positive economic and sustainable environmental change both now and in the future.

Values

  • Excellence & Ambition
  • Respect & Honesty
  • Diversity & Inclusion
  • Loyalty & Commitment
  • A Positive Environment

Kendal College & our community

We provide an educational offer to students of all ages, including full-time courses, part-time courses, higher education and apprenticeships. The local area's economic well-being is supported by providing courses for adults to help them get back into the job market and improve their employment chances. In addition, the college staff helps develop and support entrepreneurial activity amongst full-time students.

Engagement with our community & stakeholders

We engage in a wide range of partnerships, networks and projects, including support for local, regional and national charities, working with local community organisations such as Manna House and supporting local events such as regional awards nights and local events.

On an ongoing basis, we have regular dialogue with Cumbria Local Enterprise Partnership, South Lakeland District Council, the South Lakes Federation, JobCentre Plus, and many other local and regionally based organisations.

Our estate and resources are of high quality and maintained to a high standard to ensure longevity. Larger projects, such as new builds/refurbishments and IT equipment renewals, follow tight tendering processes and scrutiny by the corporation to provide the best value for money.

We actively seek the views of its students, potential students, parents/carers and other stakeholders. In addition, we engage in the community in the following ways:

  • We work effectively with local schools to identify appropriate progression routes and support requirements.
  • We are working with employers to provide apprenticeships and to identify and meet training and skills needs.
  • Holding open events, parents' evenings and awards events to engage and celebrate students' achievement throughout the academic year.
  • Makes real working environments, such as the House of Hair & Beauty and The Restaurant, available to the public.

Monitoring effectiveness

We evaluate the quality of its provision in meeting the needs and interests of learners through self-assessment processes. As part of that process, the corporation monitors the impact of our decisions and how well it performs against its strategic aims and objectives.
