Matthew studied Performing Arts with us.

My Kendal College experience was mould-breaking for me as a person and a performer. From the moment I walked into the college I knew it was the place for me. From the welcoming and knowledgeable staff who are able to help at every step, to the fellow students who share the same passions as yourself and some of whom I have built friendships with that I will carry with me forever.

How would you sum up your Kendal College experience?

My Kendal College experience was mould-breaking for me as a person and a performer. From the moment I walked into the college I knew it was the place for me. From the welcoming and knowledgeable staff who are able to help at every step, to the fellow students who share the same passions as yourself and some of whom I have built friendships with that I will carry with me forever. Despite Lockdown happening mid way through my college experience, this didn’t stop my 2 years at College being some of the best times of my life, a main highlight of my experience was getting the opportunity to perform our Final Major Project ‘Thoroughly Modern Millie’ at the Forum Theatre Barrow, alongside all my friends and classmates.

While at college I discovered my love for Musical Theatre, this led me to applying for MT courses at a range of conservatoires and Universities across the country, with help from the tutors during crazy self-tape auditions, I secured a place at The Institute for Contemporary Theatre in Manchester, training in Performing Arts- specialising in Musical Theatre, from which I graduated with my BA (hons) degree in 2024.

What are your favourite memories of your time at College?

When looking back on college, my fondest memory is the change I saw in myself from beginning to end. The College helped me feel comfortable being myself in my sexuality and who I am and expressing that in a creative way.

What advice would you give to potential students thinking of studying with us?

Give yourself over to the experience- give everything a go at least once- you might surprise yourself. DON’T deep it, it’s not that serious, enjoy it while it lasts and HAVE FUN! Treasure the experience, you won’t ever get to re-do your college years! TRUST YOUR TUTORS. They know what they’re talking about and have some amazing knowledge to give you if you are open to taking it in! ENJOY IT!
