Course Overview

This AAQ in Early Childhood Development focuses on the children's care and education sector. It reflects the current environment and practices in industry and supports you to develop the skills required in the workplace alongside theory to improve your knowledge development.

Our experienced team of tutors will support you to complete four mandatory units in this course. The units are:
1. Children's development
2. Keeping Children Safe
3. Play and Learning
4. Research and Reflective Practice in an Early Childhood Setting.

The first two units are externally assessed examinations and units 3 and 4 are assessed internals through assignment submission.

Throughout the course you will develop transferable skills that would benefit additional subjects and industries. Some of these include: self-management, interpersonal skills , problem solving, digital collaboration and communication, digital security and sustainability education practices.

Please be aware that the themes and topics in Unit 2: Keeping Children Safe may contain mentions of upsetting or difficult topics which are related to the subject, including references to the following:
- Child protection and welfare
- Safeguarding
- Child abuse; physical abuse and injury, neglect, emotional abuse, sexual abuse, domestic abuse

You will have the option to take part in additional academic and skill development opportunities such as ASPIRE, Core maths, Duke of Edinburgh award in addition to the TWO (minimum) A-Levels, tutorial sessions and study support sessions that make up your full time programme.

Entry Requirements

5 GCSEs at Grade 5 or above, including Maths and English Language.

The current fee information is related to the 2025/26 academic year.

The fee displayed is the course fee. Course fees are charged per course for part-time students. You can pay in full or spread the cost by paying 25% on enrolment and setting up a direct debit mandate for 3 further equal payments. An Advanced loan is available to students enrolling on this course.

You may qualify for financial support to cover the cost of this government-funded qualification if any of the below apply to you:
- You are aged 16 to 18 on 31st August of the relevant academic year and are not studying at another school/college
- If you do not already have a Level 3 qualification and are under 24 on 31st August of the relevant academic year
