Health & Social Care

The UK’s health and social care system is clearly struggling. With an increasingly ageing population, there is a significant demand for more people to enter the industry. Around two million new workers will need to be trained and recruited.

Course Overview

The Leadership in Health and Social Care Award is delivered by a qualified and experienced tutor with relevant vocational experience, including as a Registered Manager. This Diploma is is recommended by CQC and Skills for Care for both existing and aspiring managers. Learners will be able to develop their knowledge and demonstrate good practice in a range of areas including entrepreneurship, supporting governance and inspection, leadership approaches, and staff development.

Delivery consists of a mixture of group sessions to explore the theory and one to one sessions with the tutor to support progress and develop evidence of vocational practice. This allows learners the opportunity to share good practice and experiences from across different areas.

The award is a mixture of mandatory and optional units planned individually with the learners. Each unit contains an element of knowledge, practice, and evaluation, so that the learners need to show how they follow and implement best practice, demonstrate their understanding of the underpinning rationale and theory, and also identify areas where practice can be improved.

To achieve the Diploma learners will work with their tutor and mentor to produce a portfolio of evidence that will demonstrate their achievements and showcase the impact on their provision.

No prior qualifications are necessary but the learners must be employed in a care setting, and should have the support of their employer to achieve the required practice elements.
