Course Overview

This course will introduce you to a broad range of creative techniques and processes. You will develop your research skills, your personal confidence, and learn about progression opportunities in the Art and Design industries. There will be opportunities to learn skills within drawing, 2D design, printmaking, photography, textiles, sculpture, 3D design and digital media.

By completing this course, you will achieve a University of Arts London (UAL) Level 2 Diploma in Art and Design.

You will have access to a wide range of workshops from 3D, printmaking, photography, fashion & textiles and apple mac suites. Themed projects will help you understand art and design more broadly and enable you to make work, which expresses your own ideas as part of the creative process. You will have opportunities to improve communication and presentation skills through group activities and student exhibitions.

You will study: - 2D, 3D & 4D Art - 2D and 3D Design - Fashion and Textiles - Graphics - Digital and Lens-based media. All of our learners will be given support with their English and Maths skills where relevant to their main programme.

Those students who have not yet achieved a 'C' grade at GCSE in these subjects will continue to work towards these important qualifications at a level suited to them. Assessment is through on-going continuous assessment of unit work leading to a final major project achieved at Pass Merit or Distinction grade.

Entry Requirements

Four GCSEs Grade 3 or above (A*- D), including English or Math OR Diploma Level 1 (Merit or Distinction) You will also be required to provide a portfolio of your art and design work at interview.

After Your Course

The course is intended to open up opportunities to continue with study or to gain employment in areas of Art and Design. The course is ideal preparation for the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Art and Design. Level 3 Extended Diplomas are equivalent to three A-Levels.

The fee displayed is the course fee. Course fees are per year for full-time and degree-level courses, and on a per-course basis for part-time courses.

There may be additional costs associated with this course, such as kits, equipment, books, and trips. Financial support may be available to support you with these. See the Student Money pages for more information.

Entry Level, Level 1 & Level 2 Courses

You may qualify for financial support to cover the cost of a government-funded qualification if any of the following apply to you:

  • Receive an eligible means-tested benefit, e.g. JSA, ESA or Universal Credit
  • Have an annual salary of less than £25,000
  • Are aged 16-18 on 31/08/25 and are not studying at another school/college
  • Do not already have a level 1, 2 or 3 qualification
  • Have a household income under £35,000 and are in financial hardship
