COVID-19: Latest Update

The college is open, and we are still accepting full-time applications for 2020-2021. Hygiene measures are in place to make the college as safe as it can be for our learners, staff and guests.

Kendal College annual and termly bus passes are available to students.

The bus pass gives Monday-Friday travel from Home to and from College during term time. As we are a small college, we, unfortunately, cannot provide services to meet everyone’s needs, but we hope our provision continues to benefit the majority of our students.

Areas with Stagecoach public services

If you live in an area where Stagecoach public services operate, the pass entitles you to travel on all Stagecoach buses to & from the College (including connections). For details of costs and application forms, please see below.

Due to COVID-19, Stagecoach will be running the below additional services for college & school pupils:

- 0710 Keswick to Kendal, this will be labelled S555
- 0715 Lancaster to Kendal, this will be labelled S555
- 0715 Barrow to Kendal, this will be labelled SX6
- 1645 Kendal to Barrow, this will be labelled S6C

Do you use the 6 services from Barrow?

If you live west of Ulverston (e.g. Barrow), then you should use the 6C morning service which departs from Barrow at 0733 (timetable below).

If you live in Ulverston, and anywhere to the east (e.g. Grange-Over-Sands), you should use the SX6 service, which departs at the same time as the public X6 (timetables on the Stagecoach website).

All students should use the SX6 1645 afternoon service from the college where possible, as this is a dedicated bus for college & school pupils (timetable below).

Do you live in Windermere, or between Windermere and Kendal?

Stagecoach offer a 7-day Megarider Plus ticket for £15, which is better value for money than the college pass and can be transferable between family/friends. More info here.

Lancaster - Heysham - Morecambe - Carnforth

Students from this area can use public Stagecoach buses between home and College, as well as using the dedicated 955 double-decker service. The 955 operates in the morning, providing a fast direct connection to Kendal.

Due to COVID-19, Stagecoach will be running an additional morning service at 0715 from Lancaster bus station for college & school pupils. This will depart at the same time as the 555 but will be labelled the S555. Stagecoach will have additional buses on standby in the afternoon if needed.

In the afternoon, students can use the regular public buses which connect to the Morecambe area, e.g. 555, 755 & 5.

Eden & Sedbergh travel

We have worked hard to ensure transport is available to the majority of our students living in Eden and South Lakes. The following services will continue to run in 2020/21, with one-morning service and one-afternoon service.

KC1: Appleby to Kendal via Penrith, Shap and Tebay

> Timetable (PDF)

KC2: Brough to Kendal via Kirkby Stephen and Sedbergh

It is possible for school pupils to buy passes on these services. Please contact us for more information.

Cost of an Annual Bus Pass

The College subsidises the bus passes and asks for a contribution towards the cost. For 2020/21 this will be:

  • For the Stagecoach Public Services and the 955, we ask for a contribution of £580 (which works out as £16.57 per week).
  • For the Eden services, we ask for a contribution of £700 (which works out as £20 per week). If you are an apprentice and only need to travel on one day, we can arrange a one-day only pass for you.

Payments for the annual passes can be made in full or spread over three payments. It is also possible to buy termly passes, if for example, you are hoping to start driving in the New Year.

If paying for a pass could be difficult, please apply to our Bursary/Learner Support Funds. Many of our students are eligible for a free bus pass through these funds, which are available to students in low-income households and/or in financial hardship.
