Kendal College annual and termly bus passes are available to students.

The bus pass gives Monday to Friday travel from home to and from college during term time. As we are a small college, we, unfortunately, cannot provide services to meet everyone’s needs, but we hope our provision continues to benefit the majority of our students.

Areas with Stagecoach Public Services

2022/2023 Academic year.

If you live in an area where Stagecoach public services operate, the pass entitles you to travel on all Stagecoach buses to & from the College (including connections), Monday-Friday in term-time. For details of costs and application forms, please see below.

Do you live in Kendal?

Stagecoach offers a 7-day Megarider Plus ticket for £10.80. More info here.

Do you use the 6 services from Barrow?

For morning lessons that arrive at college for 9am:

  • If you board the bus at Ulverston Town Centre and to the West (e.g. Barrow), then you should use the 6C morning service which departs from Barrow at 0733 (timetable below).
  • If you board the bus to the East of Ulverston Town Centre (from Canal Street onwards), you should use the X6 service (timetables on the Stagecoach website).

Do you live in Windermere, or between Windermere and Kendal?

Stagecoach offers a 7-day Megarider Plus ticket for £15, which is better value for money than the college pass and can be transferable between family/friends. More info here.

Lancaster - Heysham - Morecambe - Carnforth

2022/2023 Academic year.

Students from this area can use public Stagecoach buses between home and College, as well as using the dedicated 955 double-decker service.

The 955 operates in the morning, providing a fast direct connection to Kendal. In the afternoon, students can use the regular public buses which connect to the Morecambe area, e.g. 555, 755 & 5.

Eden & Sedbergh Travel

2022/2023 Academic year.

We have worked hard to ensure transport is available to the majority of our students living in Eden and South Lakes. The following services will continue to run in 2022/23, with one-morning service and one-afternoon service.

KC1
Penrith to Kendal via Shap and Tebay.

This service now departs & arrives at Penrith. See below for the provision for Temple Sowerby to Appleby.

North Yorkshire Travel

If you:

  • Live in North Yorkshire
  • Are aged over 16 and under 19 on 1 September 2022
  • Are studying a full-time course and we are the nearest college offering this course

Cost of an Annual Bus Pass

2022/2023 Academic year.

The College subsidises the bus passes and asks for a contribution towards the cost.

  • For the Stagecoach public services and the 955, the contribution is £627 (£18 per week).
  • For the Eden services, the contribution is £700 (£20 per week). If you are an apprentice and only need to travel on one day, we can arrange a one-day-only pass for you at a cost of £5 a day, termly payment only.
  • For Stagecoach, North Cumbria, students studying in Penrith, the contribution is £715 (£20.50 per week).
