Level 2 Adult Care Worker
Apprentices in care-related roles are trained to support individuals based on the specific needs of the service they work in. This includes assisting with personal care, mobility, eating, social activities, and monitoring health. They learn to work within professional boundaries, follow statutory standards and codes of practice, and understand their duty of care. Apprentices are also equipped to contribute to personalised care plans that reflect individual preferences, and to recognise and respond to changes in a person’s physical, emotional, or social wellbeing. They are expected to follow all relevant regulations, policies, and procedures to ensure safe, high-quality care.
Additional Qualifications: Apprentices will complete a Level 2 Diploma in Adult Care during their apprenticeship as well as the Care certificate, if required.
Duration: Approximately 15 months (12 months training + 3-month assessment window [EPA])
Level 3 Lead Adult Care Worker
During their apprenticeship, lead adult care workers will develop the ability to lead by example, promote dignity and independence, and ensure that care is tailored to the unique needs of each individual. They are trained to create, implement, and review care plans, respond to changes in physical, emotional, and social wellbeing, and maintain professional boundaries while upholding their duty of care. Apprentices gain a strong understanding of statutory standards, including CQC requirements, and may be involved in liaising with inspectors to support compliance. In addition to delivering hands-on care, they build essential leadership skills—providing supervision, guiding and directing staff, and taking on frontline leadership responsibilities such as chairing meetings, supporting recruitment and induction processes, and communicating effectively across teams. They are also responsible for accurate record-keeping, supporting others to deliver safe, effective care, and contributing to service improvement. Employers benefit from apprentices who are confident, capable, and ready to take on greater responsibility in maintaining high standards of care.
Additional Qualifications: Apprentices will complete a Level 3 Diploma in Adult Care during their apprenticeship as well as the Care certificate, if required.
Duration: Approximately 21 months (18 months training + 3-month assessment window [EPA])
Level 5 Leader in Adult Care
Staff undertaking the Leader in Adult Care apprenticeship must already be in a leadership role—ideally for around six months—actively guiding and developing practice, conducting regular supervisions, and playing a key role in recruitment and induction processes. They should also be involved in preparing for inspections and liaising with the Care Quality Commission (CQC). The Leader in Adult Care is expected to guide and inspire teams to make meaningful differences in the lives of individuals facing a range of challenges—physical, emotional, psychological, or intellectual. This role carries significant leadership responsibility, whether through managing staff and networks or leading the service itself. Leaders are accountable for ensuring the service is safe, effective, caring, responsive, and well-led. They may also oversee business development, financial control, risk management, and organisational change. Crucially, they ensure regulatory compliance and uphold the values and training standards of their teams in line with established regulations.
Additional Qualifications: Apprentices will complete a Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Adult Care during their apprenticeship.
Duration: Approximately 21 months (18 months training + 3-month assessment window [EPA])
Level 4 Healthcare Science Associate
During their apprenticeship, the apprentice will need to gain structured exposure to a broad range of duties that reflect the professional standards and expectations of the healthcare science environment. They should be supported to practice professionally within the limits of their competence, following workplace standards, policies, and protocols. The apprentice will need opportunities to provide technical scientific services, apply problem-solving skills, and support the delivery of clinical care. Exposure to effective communication techniques is essential to facilitate understanding and provide constructive feedback. They should also be involved in leadership activities and collaborative working with the wider healthcare team.
Maintaining a healthy, safe, and secure workplace is a key area where the apprentice should be actively engaged, alongside adhering to quality procedures and participating in audits or service improvement initiatives. The apprentice should be encouraged to contribute to innovation or research within the scope of their role and take part in personal and professional development activities to build their competence and support others. Additionally, they must understand and promote information governance and confidentiality practices. These experiences will help the apprentice develop the knowledge, skills, and behaviours required for a successful career in healthcare science.
Additional Qualifications: Apprentices will complete a Level 4 in Healthcare Science during their apprenticeship.
Duration: Approximately 26 months (24 months training + 3-month assessment window [EPA])
