Level 2 Early Years Practitioner
This occupation involves delivering the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) requirements for children from birth to age 5 in various settings.
The broad purpose of the occupation is to work and interact directly with children on a day-to-day basis supporting the planning of and delivery of activities, purposeful play opportunities and educational programmes within the ethos of the setting. An EYP works as part of a professional team ensuring the welfare and care for children under the guidance and supervision of an Early Years Educator, teacher, or other suitably qualified professional the Early Years Workforce.
In their daily work, an employee in this occupation interacts with parents, children, colleagues and wider multi agency professionals and partners such as health visitors, social workers and speech and language therapists. Individuals will undergo all checks as per the EYFS requirements to ensure suitability to work with children. Due to the nature and level of responsibility it is not anticipated that the role would have any budgetary or leadership responsibilities.
Duration: Approximately 15 months (12 months training + 3-month assessment window [EPA])
Level 3 Early Years Educator
This occupation involves delivering the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) requirements for children from birth to age 5 in various settings.
In their daily work, an employee in this occupation interacts with children, parents, carers, colleagues, and wider multi agency professionals such as health visitors, early help services, social workers, and speech and language therapists. This includes supporting children with SEND.
An employee in this occupation will be responsible for ensuring a safe and secure environment for children's learning. They ensure that the learning environment and provision is inclusive and supports all children, and demonstrate a clear understand of equality, diversity, and inclusion. Early years educators teach and facilitate children's learning play. They apply the observation, assessment, and planning cycle to support progress and children's development. An early year’s educator will act as the key person for one or more children within their setting. They may play a leadership role within the setting or may act under the supervision of a manager.
Duration: Approximately 21 months (18 months training + 3-month assessment window [EPA])
Level 4 Children, Young People & Families Practitioner
As a practitioner, they will work with children, young people, and families, including carers, to achieve positive and sustainable changes in their lives. They will be skilled in recognising and assessing the complex needs that children, young people, and families often present. They will agree with the child, young person, or family on any specific interventions or referrals. Their approach will be one of respectful curiosity that challenges and supports children, young people, and families to achieve their potential and stay safe. They will work alongside other professionals and organisations to share the responsibility for improving outcomes. Each piece of work with a child or family will be different, and they will exercise judgment on a range of evidence-based approaches to inform their practice. They will regularly evaluate the effectiveness of their methods and actions. Regular supervision with an experienced practitioner will encourage reflection on their practice.
You could be working in a number of settings e.g. a children’s home, a residential specialist school or a secure children’s home. The children might be living on their own or in a larger group. You will take the lead in developing and delivering the child's placement plan and will work with the child to support their health, education, social and day to day needs, playing a significant role in helping them to thrive and fulfil their potential.
Additional Qualifications - Your apprentice will complete a BTEC Diploma for Residential Childcare (England) alongside this apprenticeship.

Level 5 Children, Young People & Families Manager
As a Children, Young People and Family Manager, they ensure direction and commitment within their practice, team, organisation, and partnerships to help children, young people, and families achieve sustainable change. They build teams, manage resources, and lead new approaches to improve outcomes, placing the child, young person, or family at the centre of practice.
They may work in various settings, including local authorities, health organisations, educational and early years settings, children's centres, and private, voluntary, and community organisations. They could manage a team or service independently or as part of a management team, collaborating with professionals from diverse backgrounds.
Focusing on excellence, they encourage practitioners to develop skills, knowledge, and behaviours to support each child, young person, and family. They improve practice through research and new developments, model reflective practice, and ensure safe practices. Their leadership inspires practitioners to make a real difference in the lives of children, young people, and families.
It is essential for the learners looking to take on this apprenticeship have the opportunity and exposure in the workplace to the following to support them on this journey:
- A supervisory role within the organisation, supporting a staff team.
- Opportunity to handle safeguarding incidents.
- Opportunity to write the Reg 44 report.
- A step-up into Deputy or Manager roles and responsibilities.
Our delivery has been tailored to suit the sector, and delivery is one 3 hour Taught session per
month, and one 3 hour guided learning session per month.
Additional Qualifications: Your apprentice will complete a Diploma in Leadership for Health and Social Care and Children and Young People's Services (England)
