Apprenticeships in accountancy provide opportunities for employees to gain and develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours needed to excel in the workplace.

At Kendal College we offer apprenticeships in accounting at all levels and our learners come to us from a variety of backgrounds; from school leavers entering the profession to time-served employees looking to upskill and take the next step in their career.

Each of our courses is taught by former industry professionals, in modern facilities, using industry standard software, and throughout the apprenticeship learners will have a mixture of classroom based, one to one and workplace teaching.

Accountancy is a highly-skilled and diverse field so we offer a variety of flexible solutions. A full list of our apprenticeship courses can be found below:

Level 2 Accounts or Finance Assistant

An Accounts or Finance Assistant apprenticeship is ideal for those just starting out in accountancy, whether that be in an accountancy practice, or within a finance department in industry. They will undertake, with supervision, day-to-day financial activities such as data entry, handling accounts payable and receivable, double-entry basic bookkeeping duties and reconciling figures to ensure that records and payments are correct. Tasks may include processing invoices, credit notes, VAT returns, expenses and statement reconciliation. They will help maintain an efficient and accurate finance function within an organisation.

Additional Qualification: Apprentices will complete the AAT Level 2 Certificate in Accounting

alongside this apprenticeship.

Duration: Approximately 15 months (12 months training + 3-month assessment window [EPA])

Level 3 Assistant Accountant

The apprentice may work as an assistant accountant in a practice or alternatively within the finance function of an organisation. An assistant accountant helps in the operation of day-to-day financial activities. These may include data entry to month end management accounts and year-end financial statements. In addition, the assistant accountant may find themselves involved in regulatory financial requirements. These may include the completion of VAT returns or assisting in the preparation of tax computations. Apprentices must have completed their Level 2 AAT qualification before they are able to progress on to the Level 3 apprenticeship.

Additional Qualification: Apprentices will complete AAT Level 3 Diploma in Accounting

alongside this apprenticeship.

Duration: Approximately 18 months (15 months training + 3-month assessment window [EPA])

Level 4 Professional Accounting Technician

Individuals in the role of a Professional accounting or tax technician will have responsibility for creating, and/or verifying and reviewing, accurate and timely financial information within the organisation and must have in depth financial oversight within the business. This will be performed to meet relevant ethical, professional, and legal standards, and will utilise the individual’s knowledge of the business systems and processes, as well as standard accounting and tax practices. This role may exist in an accounting practice, a professional services company, HMRC or the accounting function of a business or other organisation.

Additional Qualification: Apprentices will complete AAT Level 4 Diploma in Professional Accounting alongside this apprenticeship.

Duration: Approximately 24 months (18 months training + 3-month assessment window [EPA])
