At Kendal College, our specialist English and maths staff create supportive learning environments where you can seize the opportunity to attain an English and/or Maths qualification that is industry-recognised. We offer a full suite of English and maths qualifications from entry-level to A-Level. Whether it is your first qualification, resit or higher-level qualification, there will be one that matches your needs. After an initial assessment, you will be signposted to the correct level of English and maths qualifications.

Teaching on all English and maths programmes are delivered by subject specialists, with sessions tailored to the development and application of knowledge and skills, that will, in turn, lead to the best chance of success. Sessions are delivered through class, individual and group work. The English and maths programmes make use of the college’s excellent ICT and VLE facilities to promote independent learning and extension activities outside of college.

There will be continuous formative assessment throughout the course leading to summative externally written examination papers in May or June for A-Level and GCSE, and throughout the year for Functional Skills.

This course runs part time, over 32 weeks (one academic year). You will follow the new specification GCSE English Language (9-1). It is an ideal choice for learners who wish to explore a range of language topics with an element of literature, develop a range of skills and expand their English Language knowledge base, all in one qualification.
