Course Overview

Digital Arts - Graphics and Illustration for Beginners

This course is ideal for beginners with an interest in digital art, graphic design, illustration and visual storytelling who want to develop their creative skills in a supportive and inspiring environment. Through a series of practical projects, you will explore digital design techniques while building confidence in your artistic abilities.

Delivered over 8 weeks, the course introduces industry-standard creative software, including Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign. You will learn how to create digital artwork while experimenting with illustration, character design, typography, poster design, branding, collage techniques and visual storytelling. Creative workshops will encourage you to explore different styles and approaches, helping you develop your own unique visual language.

Throughout the course, you will complete a range of creative projects designed to develop your technical skills, problem-solving abilities and creative thinking. You will research the work of contemporary designers, illustrators and visual artists, using this inspiration to inform and enhance your own work.

You will build a portfolio of digital artwork, documenting your creative journey and showcasing the skills you have developed. A simple PowerPoint presentation will be used to upload, review and receive feedback on your work. The course will also include opportunities for independent study and creative practice outside of class.

Your tutors are experienced creative practitioners with extensive industry and teaching experience. They will guide you through each stage of the course, providing regular feedback, support and advice to help you develop confidence in using digital design software and expressing your ideas visually.

By the end of the course, you will have produced a portfolio of creative digital work and gained the knowledge, skills and confidence to continue your creative practice through personal projects or progression onto further courses and qualifications.
