Whether you are new to accountancy, looking to change your career into bookkeeping or run your own business, this course is ideal for you.
The course is delivered in person, at Kendal College by industry experts, who have a wealth of experience at supporting individual learners to achieve. The in-class experience also offers a chance to study with others and begin to create a professional network.
To achieve the qualification, you will study and sit computer based assessments for 2 units:
- Introduction to bookkeeping
- Principles of bookkeeping controls
You will learn the basics of double entry bookkeeping and ledger accounts. You will be able to process basic financial transactions with customers, suppliers and banks. You will learn about control accounts, bank reconciliations and dealing with errors and journals.

Entry Requirements
You don't need any experience of working in accounts to study AAT Level 2 Certificate in Bookkeeping. There are no specific academic entry requirements, but you do need good English, maths and IT skills. Most importantly you need to be committed to the course and a willingness to learn.
In addition to the course fees, students need to join the AAT as a student member. This costs GBP65 and is payable directly to AAT. This gives you access to AAT online resources and must be paid at the start of your course.
The course fee includes your tuition for the academic year and exam entry fees. Additional charge will be made for any resits required (GBP60 per resit). The course cost includes printed course notes. Students are encouraged to purchase text books (offered at a discounted rate) to support out of class study.
Students must complete the course in the academic year.
After Your Course
AAT qualifications are much sought after by employers, and the bookkeeping qualification is an excellent way to gain the knowledge to start a new flexible career. On completion of this course, you may progress into employment in the industry or work for yourself. Some students who complete AAT level 2 Certificate in Bookkeeping progress onto the full AAT level 2 course (with exemptions).
On completion you may decide to do the accounts for your own business, start a career in bookkeeping or apply for roles such as finance assistant, payroll clerk, sales ledger clerk, purchase ledger clerk or trainee accountant.

The fee displayed is the course fee. Course fees are charged per course for part-time students. There is the opportunity to pay in instalments if your course has a duration of 15 weeks or over. You may qualify for financial support to cover the cost of this government-funded qualification if any of the below apply to you:
- You are aged 16 to18 on 31st August of the relevant academic year and are not studying at another school or college
- Have a gross annual income of less than GBP25,000 (means-tested benefit or salary)
- Have a household income under GBP35,000 and are in financial hardship (bursary funding)
