Course Overview

This qualification is designed to provide a specialist work-related qualification that gives learners the knowledge, understanding and skills that they need to prepare for employment at this level. It also offers career development and opportunities for those already in work.

The QCF Level 3 Diploma offers an engaging programme for those who want to work in a support role in schools (primary, secondary or special schools)

Learning Styles
The course will help you learn by encouraging you to develop knowledge and understanding. You will also have an individual assessor to support you through a variety of methods, in particular, group discussion.

The Diploma is a 54 credit qualification that consists of 16 mandatory units.

Units include:
- Communication and professional relationships with children, young people and adults
- School as organisations
- Support learning activities
- Promote children and young people's positive behaviour
- Support English & Maths skills
- Support children and young people's speech, language & communication
- Understand how to support the learning of children, young people with special educational needs
- Support the role of play, leisure and extra-curricular activities for children and young people

Although there are no examinations, candidates should be aware that there is a substantial theoretical element that underpins your practical competence. You will be assessed in your workplace or placement, through a wide variety of assignment briefs, and via your portfolio of evidence compiled during the course.

A qualified assessor will assess you in your working environment. This will help provide evidence to meet the practical assessment criteria.

Entry Requirements

You will be required to provide proof of substantial experience of supporting in a classroom. Acceptance on the course is subject to an interview.

You will need to be working or on placement within a school environment.

You will need a current DBS check.

You will need to feel confident that you can support literacy and numeracy at the level required in your work role.

After Your Course

This Level 3 Diploma is a recognised qualification for working in schools as a Teaching Assistant or Special Attachment Welfare Assistant.

£2225.00

The current fee information is related to the 2025/26 academic year.

The fee displayed is the course fee. Course fees are charged per course for part-time students. You can pay in full or spread the cost by paying 25% on enrolment and setting up a direct debit mandate for 3 further equal payments. An Advanced loan is available to students enrolling on this course.

You may qualify for financial support to cover the cost of this government-funded qualification if any of the below apply to you:
- You are aged 16 to 18 on 31st August of the relevant academic year and are not studying at another school or college
- Have a gross annual income of less than GBP25,000 (means-tested benefit or salary)
