Course Overview
The VTCT Level 1 Diploma in Beauty Therapy is a qualification that has been specifically designed to introduce you to practical beauty therapy skills. This qualification has been designed for the 14-16 age groups, and will develop the knowledge skills to prepare learners for beginning to study as a beauty therapist. Learners will have their beauty therapy skills assessed in a real or realistic working environment.
The qualification also gives opportunities to develop life skills including:
- Time Keeping and time management
- Communication methods
- Customer Service skills
What does this qualification cover?
This qualification is based on the national occupational standards for beauty therapy and includes all the required elements to work effectively as a beauty therapist. Learners must achieve all mandatory units which include:
- Presenting a professional image in a salon
- Photographic make-up
- Basic manicure treatment
- Health and safety in the salon
- Salon reception duties
- Nail art application
- Skin care
- Basic make-up application
- Themed face painting
Entry Requirements
You need to demonstrate that you are working GCSE Level 1 (or above) in Maths and English. An interview will be required, and initial assessments/transition visits may form part of the offer process.

After Your Course
The primary purpose of this qualification is to prepare learners for study at level 2 and to develop their knowledge and skills further to allow progession.

The fee displayed is the course fee. Course fees are per year for full-time & degree-level courses and per course for part-time courses.

Entry Level, Level 1 & Level 2 Courses
You may qualify for financial support to cover the cost of a government-funded qualification if any of the below apply to you:
- Receive an eligible means-tested benefit, e.g. JSA, ESA or Universal Credit
- Have an annual salary of less than £25,000
- Are aged 16-18 on 31/08/24 and are not studying at another school/college
- Do not already have a level 1, 2 or 3 qualification
- Have a household income under £35,000 and are in financial hardship
