Course Overview
The VTCT Level 1 Diploma in Beauty Therapy is a qualification that has been specifically designed to introduce you to practical beauty therapy skills. This qualification will develop the knowledge skills to prepare learners for beginning to study as a beauty therapist. Learners will have their beauty therapy skills assessed in a real or realistic working environment.
The qualification also gives opportunities to develop life skills including:
- Time Keeping and time management
- Communication methods
- Customer Service skills
What does this qualification cover?
This qualification is based on the national occupational standards for beauty therapy and includes all the required elements to work effectively as a beauty therapist. Learners must achieve all mandatory units which include:
- Presenting a professional image in a salon
- Photographic make-up
- Basic manicure treatment
- Health and safety in the salon
- Salon reception duties
- Nail art application
- Skin care
- Basic make-up application
- Themed face painting
Entry Requirements
You need to demonstrate that you are working GCSE Level 1 (or above) in Maths and English. An interview will be required, and initial assessments/transition visits may form part of the offer process.

After Your Course
The primary purpose of this qualification is to prepare learners for study at level 2 and to develop their knowledge and skills further to allow progession.

Course fees are charged per course for full-time students.There may be additional costs associated with this course, including kits, equipment, books, and travel expenses. You may qualify for financial support to cover the cost of this government-funded qualification if any of the below apply to you:
- You are aged 16 to 18 on 31st August of the relevant academic year and are not studying at another school or college
- If you do not already have a Level 1 qualification and are under 24 on 31st August of the relevant academic year
- Have a gross annual income of less than GBP25,000 (means-tested benefit or salary)
- Have a household income under GBP35,000 and are in financial hardship (bursary funding)
