Course Overview
If you are interested in a career in uniformed public services, responding to emergencies, or progression to degree level study in these and related areas this is the course for you. This course usually takes place over three days each week, and is a mixture of physical practical activity and theory classes.
The qualification you will achieve:
BTEC Level 3 National Foundation Diploma - Uniformed Protective Services (Year One)
leading to.
BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma - Uniformed Protective Services (Year Two)
You will study subjects including:
- Citizenship and Diversity
- Behaviour and Discipline in the Uniformed Protective Services
- Global Affairs, the Media and Uniformed Protective Services
- Physical Preparation, Health and Wellbeing
- Teamwork, Leadership and Communication in the Uniformed Protective Services
- Government and the Protective Services
- Planning and Responding to Emergency Incidents
- Skills for Outdoor Activities and Uniformed Public Services
- Developing Personal Fitness Programmes
You will complete two-weeks of work experience / volunteering at a relevant organisation, which will be tailored to your individual area of interest.
Internal & external assessments will be ongoing throughout your level 3 course.
Internal assessments will include (as examples) individual presentations, group projects, creating plans for protective services work, written evaluations and assessment of physical activities, delivery of a session and practical assessment.
Externally assessed work is by examination and externally assessed course work
Entry Requirements
You should have a minimum of five GCSEs Grade 4 or above, including English or a Level 2 Diploma at Merit or Distinction.
In addition you will be given an interview with a member of the teaching team to assess your suitability and potential for successful completion of the course.

After Your Course
Following this course you may choose to pursue a career in the Police, Armed Forces, Fire and Rescue, the Prison Service or other uniformed protective services.
Higher-level study is also accessible with this Level 3 qualification, in areas including (but not limited to): Policing, Emergency Planning, Disaster Management, Sociology, Criminology, and Outdoor Adventure.
There are a wide range of occupations for graduate entry across the uniformed protective services, including roles in the police service and the armed services.

The fee displayed is the course fee. Course fees are per year for full-time courses and per course for part-time courses.
Other costs may be associated with this course, e.g., kit, equipment, books, trips, etc. Financial support may be available to support you with these. See the Student Money pages for more information.

The current full-time & degree-level fee information is related to the 2024/25 academic year.
Level 3-6 Courses
Advanced Learning Loans are available for students aged 19 or over and studying eligible level 3, 4, 5 & 6 courses. If you are on an Access course, the loan will be written off if you complete a degree.
You may qualify for financial support to cover the cost of a Level 3 qualification if you do not already have a Level 3 qualification (this will depend on the course & your age on 31/08/24).

A-Levels
The fees displayed are for the one-year AS-Level course. If you would like to progress onto the full A-Level, please get in touch with us for the cost of the second year, as it will be different.
16-18 year olds
There are no course fees if you were aged 16-18 on 31/08/24 and are not studying at another institution.
