Course Overview

This course will give you the qualifications and experience necessary to enter the field of beauty therapy and go on to work in beauty salons, spas, as a sales representative, on cruise ships, in health centres, or even start your own business.

You will learn how to perform brow and lash treatments, depilation, manicure and pedicure, facial massage and skin care, and makeup application.

This course has been specifically designed to develop your practical skills in:

- How to provide eyelash and brow treatments

- Remove hair using waxing techniques,

- Applying make-up

- Manicure and pedicure

-Facials and skin care

You will also develop a sound knowledge of health and safety practice in a salon environment, how to contribute to the effective running of a beauty business, how to carry out effective salon reception duties and how to display retail stock to promote sales in the salon. You will also develop a knowledge and understanding of the practical skills learned throughout this qualification.

The purpose of this qualification is to develop your skills in beauty therapy to a high level of occupational ability, to enable you to perform your own salon services

Learning Styles:
You will learn in a variety of situations including, theory classes, practical workshops and public salons, which are well equipped to prepare you for industry.

This range of experience is designed to help you gain confidence, independence and professional awareness.


Assessment will be via a portfolio of evidence, practical demonstrations and assignments.

As part of this qualification you are required to produce a portfolio of evidence. A portfolio will confirm the knowledge, understanding and practical skills you have learnt whilst studying on the course. Your assessor will support you through the process.

Evidence in the portfolio may take the following forms:
- Observed work
- Witness statements
- Audio-visual media
- Evidence of prior learning or attainment
- Written questions
- Oral questions
- Assignments
- Case studies

Entry Requirements

To study at this level, you should ideally have four GCSEs at grade A*-D, including English.

Mature students may be accepted on to the course without formal qualifications.

After Your Course

When you have successfully completed this qualification will have the opportunity to progress to the following VTCT qualifications:

- Level 3 Diploma in Beauty Therapy General

- Level 3 Diploma in Beauty Therapy Massage

You will gain the qualifications and experience necessary to enter the field of Beauty Therapy either locally or further afield.

You could work within the industry in a number of areas, such as:

- Beauty salons

- Health farms

- Sales representatives

- Cruise ships

- Health centres

- Self employed

Progression opportunities to Higher Education include Foundation Degree or Management roles.

£1200.00

The fee displayed is the course fee. Course fees are per year for full-time & degree-level courses and per course for part-time courses.

Entry Level, Level 1 & Level 2 Courses

You may qualify for financial support to cover the cost of a government-funded qualification if any of the below apply to you:

  • Receive an eligible means-tested benefit, e.g. JSA, ESA or Universal Credit
  • Have an annual salary of less than £25,000
  • Are aged 16-18 on 31/08/24 and are not studying at another school/college
  • Do not already have a level 1, 2 or 3 qualification
  • Have a household income under £35,000 and are in financial hardship
