Apprenticeships in Hairdressing & Barbering are a respected way for new and current industry employees to gain and develop the practical skills and theoretical knowledge they need to work in the industry.

Learners at Kendal College are taught in industry specification salons using modern equipment and technology to become proficient in providing the latest services and cutting, grooming, and styling techniques.

Hair Professional, Level 2

Course Overview

A distinct job role within this occupational profile, by completing this standard you will be able to shampoo and condition hair, cut hair using a range of techniques, style and finish hair to create a variety of looks, and colour and lighten hair for ladies and men. You will be able to work in a salon to offer a broad range of services to your clientele, working as a junior stylist.

Achievement of the standard makes you eligible for State Registration with the Hair Council.

Entry Requirements

Preferred GCSE Grade 4 English and Maths, though not essential.

Advance & Creative Hair Professional, Level 3

Course Overview

Hairdressing is an exciting and creative career choice. There are many opportunities for progression, including stylist, senior stylist, colour technician, or even salon management. Hairdressing and Barbering could lead to a career on a cruise ship, in the media, and even teaching.

Level 2 Hair Professional.

Topics Covered

Creatively style and dress hair, creatively cut hair using a combination of techniques, creatively colour and lighten hair, provide client consultation services, hair colour correction services, contribute to the planning, implementation and evaluation of promotional activities.

Hair Professional (Barbering), Level 2

Course Overview

The Barbering Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship is ideal for individuals looking to build and develop their barbering skills. The apprenticeship consists of the Level 3 NVQ diploma in barbering, along with Functional Skills Level 2 in Maths and English (if required). You will learn and develop more advanced and creative skills, gain the benchmark qualification for the barbering industry and earn a wage whilst you learn.

Entry Requirements

NVQ Level 2 in Barbering.

Topics Covered

Advise and consult with clients, cut hair using basic barbering techniques, shampoo and condition hair and scalp, dry and finish men's hair, create basic patterns in hair and cut facial hair to shape using basic techniques (wet shaving if not already achieved in Barbering Standard).
