Apprenticeships in Hairdressing & Barbering are a respected way for new and current industry employees to gain and develop the practical skills and theoretical knowledge they need to work in the industry.

Learners at Kendal College are taught in industry specification salons using modern equipment and technology to become proficient in providing the latest services and cutting, grooming, and styling techniques.

In this industry, having highly-skilled, knowledgeable and specialised staff is essential to ensure clients are satisfied and keep coming back. We offer apprenticeships courses in all aspects of Hairdressing & Barbering, a list of which can be found below.

Level 2 Hairdressing professional

Hairdressers will be able to shampoo and condition hair, cut hair using a range of techniques, style and finish hair to create variety of looks, and colour and lighten hair for ladies and men. Hairdressers must be able to work with all hair types ranging from straight hair to very curly, wiry hair. They also need to be able to carry out consultations with clients, demonstrate the professionalism, values, behaviours, communication skills and safe working practices associated with their role and be able to work without supervision to a high level of precision, with exceptional client care skills.

Duration: Approximately 27 months (24 months training + 3-month assessment window [EPA])

Level 2 Barbering Professional

Barbers will be able to shampoo and condition hair, cut hair using barbering techniques, style and finish hair, cut facial hair into shape and provide shaving services for men. Barbers must be able to work with all hair types ranging from straight hair to very curly, wiry hair. They also need to be able to carry out consultations with clients, demonstrate the professionalism, values, behaviours, communication skills and safe working practices associated with their role and be able to work without supervision to a high level of precision, with exceptional client care skills.

Duration: Approximately 21 months (18 months training + 3-month assessment window [EPA])

Level 3 Wellbeing & Holistic Therapist

Wellbeing and Holistic Therapists work in a range of wellness environments including spas, holistic therapy centres, medi-spas, and beauty salons, with growing demand in healthcare and corporate settings. Their role is to design and deliver personalised treatments—such as aromatherapy, acupressure, holistic massage, Indian head massage, and lymphatic drainage—that support clients’ physical, emotional, and mental wellbeing.

Apprentices will learn to manage treatment outcomes, ensure client safety, and provide aftercare and wellbeing advice. They contribute to the commercial success of the business by enhancing the client experience. Working independently or as part of a multidisciplinary team, they collaborate with other wellness and healthcare professionals. Employers benefit from apprentices who bring a holistic, client-focused approach and support the delivery of high-quality, tailored wellbeing services.
