Course Overview
This course is for learners who may wish to work within the agricultural industry or progress to further learning and/or training. Learners may be new to agriculture or have some knowledge and basic skills and want to develop their skills, perhaps to start work on a farm or prepare for further training. The Level 2 course allows learners to develop underpinning knowledge whilst practising skills that could be used within employment in the agriculture industry.
Modules taught include:
- Work Experience in a Land based industry- learners will need to complete 150 hours work experience on farms
- Environmental and Land-based Business
- Introduction to Farm Animal Production
- Introduction to Animal and Plant Biology
Lessons will be practical on the farm and theory based. Farm practical lessons take place on our partner farms, and there may be visits or trips during the course to see other agriculture enterprises, as well as talks from industry experts. Additional qualifications such as ATV and Telehandler are also available.
The course is assessed through practical and written assessment. All assignments are graded at pass, merit or distinction. The Level 2 is the equivalent to three GCSE qualifications.
Entry Requirements
4 GCSEs at grade 3 to include English and maths.
After Your Course
This course enables progression to employment within the industry, apprenticeships, for example:
- T-Level where achieved GCSE grade 4 in English and maths plus a Distinction grade in the Level 2 qualification
- Level 2 GFW or Level 3 LUT Apprenticeship in Agriculture, again requiring English and maths at grade 4 or Functional Skills L2.

The fee displayed is the course fee. Course fees are charged per course for full-time students. There is the opportunity to pay in instalments if your course has a duration of 15 weeks or over. You may qualify for financial support to cover the cost of this government-funded qualification if any of the below apply to you:
- You are aged 16 to 18 on 31st August of the relevant academic year and are not studying at another school/college
- Have a gross annual income of less than GBP25,000 (means-tested benefit or salary)
- Have a household income under GBP35,000 and are in financial hardship (bursary funding)
