The course will be in our dedicated film and TV studio at the Westmorland Campus, equipped with industry-standard, up-to-date equipment. It is an intensive 2 days a week with extra studio time when needed and is taught by TV, film, and business industry specialists. It is assessed through a filmmaking portfolio and showreels.
This qualification is designed to help you develop the skills, knowledge, and understanding necessary for a career as a creative filmmaker. You will be able to enhance your employability by cultivating creative enterprise skills, expanding your network, and working on your startup projects within the film industry.
The primary purpose of this qualification is to provide you with opportunities to accelerate your entry into employment or self-employment in the creative industries and support your progression into higher education.
The qualification consists of three specific units:
Unit 1: The Creative Entrepreneur
This unit introduces you to the essential enterprise skills to launch a creative business venture. You will explore how to position and brand your creative enterprise in a competitive marketplace while gaining an understanding of creative and cultural policy. You will examine various business models and develop skills in project management, copyright laws, fundraising and budgeting, pitching proposals, marketing, and social media. The business focus of this unit will complement and support your creative research and development work in Unit 2.
Unit 2: The Creative Practitioner
In this unit, you can define your artistic ambitions in filmmaking, allowing you the time and space to research and develop your creative ideas. You will also enhance your networking skills and begin building a database of industry contacts. This unit encourages a deeper personal reflection and diagnosis to help you identify your aspirations within the film industry and develop the professional skills necessary for your progression in this field.
Unit 3: The Creative Enterprise
This unit requires you to develop, formalise, and present a sustainable business plan for your creative enterprise. You will take the initiative in your professional development by conducting a feasibility study, which will support and inform an in-depth business plan for your chosen path in film. The business plan will outline all budgetary, legal, marketing, and health and safety requirements while contextualising your creative practice within the broader creative industries.
