Course Overview
Are you aged 22 or over and want a career change? Always wanted to enter the rewarding career of working with children and young people. Find your future in Children's Residential Care.
We have partnered with Westmorland and Furness and Cumberland Council to provide an excellent opportunity to gain a Level 1 Award, 'Introduction to Health, Social Care and Children's and Young People's Settings', delivered by a tutor with over 30 years of industry experience and co-delivered by current experienced Registered Managers.
Step into Residential Childcare is an 8-week course which includes a work placement in partnership with Cumberland and Westmorland and Furness Council. You'll attend a regional face to face session once per week, followed by 4 weeks of work placement (evenings and weekends), which will result in a guaranteed interview.
Whilst on the programme, you will learn topics such as the range of service provision within the county, values and principles of residential childcare, awareness of child protection and safeguarding, introduction to the importance of communication, as well as looking at equality and inclusion, health and safety, child-centred support and awareness of working with others.
On this course you will receive the training required to help provide safe, stable and nurturing environments needed for children and young people to thrive.
In addition to this, workshops will be delivered on:
- L1 Food Hygiene
- Emergency First Aid at Work
The delivery of this course has been designed to highlight the realities of this type of occupation and to celebrate how rewarding this vocation can be, aimed at anyone aged 22 years or over and wanting to change careers or has always wanted to know what this type of work entails.
This qualification can also be used as accredited prior learning towards the mandatory Level 3 Residential Childcare qualification or the Children, Young People and Families apprenticeship.
