Course Overview
This course is designed to equip you with the basic skills in plumbing and heating.
You will learn about health and safety, plumbing science, plumbing processes, cold and hot water, central heating, sanitation and other subjects related to the industry.
On the Level 3 programme you will study more advanced subjects such as environmental technology.
All of our learners will be given support with their English and Maths skills where relevant to their main programme. Those students who have not yet achieved a 'C' grade at GCSE in these subjects will continue to work towards these important qualifications at a level suited to them.
The course has been designed to contribute to providing evidence of occupational competence to enable progression to a level 3 qualification, or an apprenticeship.
The main subjects you will take are:
11 theory units with unit assessment and end exam, including:
- Health and Safety
- Plumbing Science
- Plumbing & Heating Processes
- Cold and hot water
- Central heating
- Sanitation
- Sheet lead
- Electrical & Scientific Principles
Continual assessment of both theoretical and practical work - assessment is based on candidates showing what they can do.
Practical assessment is a portfolio of assessment projects that need completing. These use a range of materials including copper, steel, sheet lead and plastics.
All exams are online multiple choice questions.
Entry Requirements
You will need 4 GCSEs at Grade 4 or above, or a Level 1 qualification in Construction AND Maths GSCE at Grade 4 or above, and English GCSE at Grade 3 or above.
Adult students may be accepted without formal qualifications. All applicants are interviewed and accepted on an individual basis.
After Your Course
This course provides you with the skills to progress your career in the plumbing industry. Most students progress onto the Level 3 full-time course or an apprenticeship.

The fee displayed is the course fee. Course fees are charged per course for full-time students. There is the opportunity to pay in instalments. You may qualify for financial support to cover the cost of this government-funded qualification if any of the below apply to you:
- You are aged 16 to 18 on 31st August of the relevant academic year and are not studying at another school or college
- If you do not already have a Level 2 qualification and are under 24 on 31st August of the relevant academic year
- Have a gross annual income of less than GBP25,000 (means-tested benefit or salary)
- Have a household income under GBP35,000 and are in financial hardship (bursary funding)
