The Level 1 Introduction to Vocational Studies promotes a wide range of skills to prepare you for your future work or further specialist study (see list below). This programme supports personal development and lifelong learning while promoting independence and preparation for employment.
It is a flexible one year programme which can be extended to two years. Class sizes are small, and support is available during lessons, breaks and at lunchtime.
Vocational tasters and work-based opportunities are an integral part of this programme. Learners develop their English and Maths skills as well as a range of other skills that will stand them in good stead for accessing the College learning environment in the future.
What will I learn?
The Introduction to Vocational Studies programme will provide you with an opportunity to:
- Pathways to employment in particular sectors.
- Experience a variety of vocational subjects offered by the College.
- Improve your Maths and English.
- Develop communication and team working skills through a rich programme of indoor/outdoor activity.
-Pathway related units relating to the following areas: arts, hospitality, animal care and construction.
How will I be assessed?
Assessment is through a variety of methods, demonstration of practical skills, discussions, written tasks and oral presentations. You will be graded at Pass, Merit or Distinction.
Entry Requirements
You need to demonstrate that you are working at Entry Level 3/GCSE Level 1 (or above) in Maths and English. An interview will be required, and initial assessments/transition visits may form part of the offer process.

The fee displayed is the course fee. Course fees are per year for full-time & degree-level courses and per course for part-time courses.
There may be other costs associated with this course, e.g. kit, equipment, books, trips etc. Financial support may be available to support you with these. See the Student Money pages for more information.

Entry Level, Level 1 & Level 2 Courses
You may qualify for financial support to cover the cost of a government-funded qualification if any of the below apply to you:
- Receive an eligible means-tested benefit, e.g. JSA, ESA or Universal Credit
- Have an annual salary of less than £25,000
- Are aged 16-18 on 31/08/24 and are not studying at another school/college
- Do not already have a level 1, 2 or 3 qualification
- Have a household income under £35,000 and are in financial hardship
