Course Overview
This course will introduce you to and develop your skills within music performance, production and the creative commercial opportunities within the arts sector. You should be enthusiastic, have an active interest in music and be willing to participate in group activities and to work creatively as a member of a team.
By completing this course, you will achieve a University of Arts London (UAL) Level 2 Diploma in Music Performance and Production.
You will have the opportunity to perform as both a soloist and as an ensemble. You will learn how to creatively use music software using professional standard equipment as well as using our professional recording studio. Units you will study include live music performance, sound recording, composition using music software, critical listening skills and personal music project. You will learn how to perform popular and world music from a range of genres; how the music industry operates, how to work as part of a team and crucially how to record and mix audio and midi. These units make it possible for you to take a performance or a technical route, depending on your interest and skills. You will be required to audition for this course.
There is a music-related residential visit as part of this course which will help to further build your skills within the industry.
All of our learners will be given support with their English and Maths skills where relevant to their main programme. Those students who have not yet achieved a grade 4 at GCSE in these subjects will continue to work towards these important qualifications at a level suited to them. Methods of Study include: Coursework, E-assessment, Portfolio of Evidence, Practical Demonstration/Assignment, Task-based Controlled Assessment Aural Examination, Multiple Choice Examination, Written Examination.
Entry Requirements
Four GCSEs at grade 3 or above, preferably including English or Maths; or a Level 1 Diploma at Merit Level. You will also be required to audition for this programme.
After Your Course
Students usually progress on to Level 3 Diplomas in Music, Performing Arts or Technical Theatre. Work experience opportunities as a musician, music technician or music journalist.

Entry Level, Level 1 & Level 2 Courses
You may qualify for financial support to cover the cost of a government-funded qualification if any of the below apply to you:
- Have an annual salary of less than £20,319.
- Receive an eligible means-tested benefit, e.g. JSA, ESA or Universal Credit.
- Are aged 16-18 on 31/08/23 and are not studying at another school/college.
- Are aged 19 or over on 31/08/23 and do not already have a Level 1, 2 or 3 qualification.
- Have a household income under £35,000 and are in financial hardship.
