Course Overview
Local illustrator Bethan Thorsby will lead you through this exciting 15 week course. You will be taken through a range of illustration techniques to help you create a portfolio of work. You will be given the opportunity to build a body of course work, through tutor led workshops that will introduce you to contemporary illustration techniques using collage, drawing, paint, pattern and printmaking. There will be an opportunity to develop basic digital skills within Illustrator and Photoshop to enhance your practical work and prepare artwork for print and web. Your coursework will include sketchbook development and final pieces.
By completing this course, you will achieve a University of Arts London (UAL) Level 2 Award in Drawing (Illustration).
The Illustration course is ideal for those who wish to gain a formal qualification and practical experience working with a range of visual communication techniques. This course can help take an interest in visual arts to the next level or prepare you for entry to higher level study
Learning Styles:
The course will be taught through demonstrations, group discussions and hands on practical tasks. This course will involve some personal study outside the class, including research.
You will be taken through the visual communication process to help you explore media and develop a series of artwork.
The course will include time spent on tutor led workshops, these will include:
- Drawing using pencil, charcoal, ink etc
- Collage
- Painting and mark making
- Repeat pattern
- Printmaking using mono-print
- Digital illustration
There is an additional fee of GBP20, which covers the use of resources and materials. If you are gaining a fee waiver for the course, the course fee will be waived but this workshop fee is still required.

£150.00
The fee displayed is the course fee. Course fees are per year for full-time & degree-level courses and per course for part-time courses.

Entry Level, Level 1 & Level 2 Courses
You may qualify for financial support to cover the cost of a government-funded qualification if any of the below apply to you:
- Have an annual salary of less than £20,319.
- Receive an eligible means-tested benefit, e.g. JSA, ESA or Universal Credit.
- Are aged 16-18 on 31/08/23 and are not studying at another school/college.
- Are aged 19 or over on 31/08/23 and do not already have a Level 1, 2 or 3 qualification.
- Have a household income under £35,000 and are in financial hardship.
