Why did you choose this course?
Always interested in the subject.
Why did you choose Kendal College?
I wanted to come to Kendal because I thought it was a great college; my family came here and it looked good on the website. I came to the open day and it looked like it was a very good course, very structured had everything that I was thinking about doing, all the massage training and facial electrics - quite a good course.
What do you most enjoy about College life?
School had a bell. College is not relaxing but I prefer college because it’s you and it's more independent and that’s good. I quite like doing massage because that’s what I want to do – work in the Lakes in a Spa.
What opportunities have you had as a student at the College?
Visits from people who have a spa so you get a feel for what’s out there.
We are going to Harrogate to a high-end spa and we can get some treatments done which is good.
Can you describe a typical day at College?
Did L2 last year which was all the waxing and nails etc. and L3 goes into massage, facial electrics, hot stones. My college tutor has helped me get a part-time job as a beauty technician in Milnthorpe. It can be hard juggling the 2 as I have assignments and exams coming up but I can manage it as I have Fridays off.
How would you describe your College experience so far?
We get a plan of the assignments and the tutors give us time to go through it all in tutorial, for example my anatomy and physiology assignment is about 60 questions so we can go through that and they help us with anything we are struggling with. It is quite involved we do A Level Biology too.
It has been a positive experience, very good college and really nice.
What are you hoping to do after College?
Be a massage therapist in a Spa in the Lakes. A friend works in a high-end Spa and you don’t need further training.
What facilities do you use regularly at the College?
I use the library for assignments and work and the café. The student Wifi is really useful.
If you could give one piece of advice to people considering College, what would it be?
Travelling is hard when you live far away and you have to get up at 6 and 5.30am to get here. You have to be dedicated to come when it’s snowing etc. It’s good to live closer.
