Kendal is the closest college to where I live but it also has a really great reputation for Creative Arts.

Is College like you had expected. If not, why?
To be honest, I thought there would be a lot of written work like school, but the majority of the work is practical and learning new skills by doing them and working on projects rather than talking about them!

What do you most enjoy about College life?
I think college is a really good place to learn, because I feel comfortable and supported here by all the tutors and the students.

What opportunities have you had as a student at the College?
We had the opportunity to visit London and speak to industry professionals like the Head of Sound at ‘Hamilton’ which is the biggest show on the West End at the moment, and we have the opportunity to work creatively on our own projects throughout the year.

What is the teaching style like on your course?
Very practical based, the tutors encourage us to think creatively and expressively when we are working with lighting or set design and we are able to be very hands-on with all aspects of the industry that we are training for.

Can you describe a typical day at College?
I get to college at about 9am most days, and then get to relax with my friends in the cafe before we start sessions. When we are working on projects we meet and discuss the plans for the day and then get to work! We are treated like young professionals which helps us prepare for life after college.

How would you describe your College experience so far?
Interesting! I’ve been on the Music course and the Theatre & Event Technology course and I’ve met a lot of new friends and learnt a lot from the tutors and people around me.

What are you hoping to do after College?
I’m progressing on to the Level 3 Theatre & Event Technology course and then after that, I’d love to go on to University or a Drama school to carry on with Production Management because I’ve really enjoyed myself so far and want to develop this into a career.

What facilities do you use regularly at the College?
The college has a lot of resources for us but we spend a lot of time in The Box, where we have a full lighting & sound rig and can develop skills on all the software we use in our industry.

If you could give one piece of advice to people considering College, what would it be?
Don’t shy away from new challenges & new skills, you never know what hidden talents you might find!
