Age: 19

Hometown: Dalton-in-Furness

Why did you choose this course?
When I finished my A-Levels I wasn’t sure exactly what I wanted to do and rather than taking a gap-year or going into employment I decided I wanted to develop my knowledge further and improve my employability; Business seemed like an excellent opportunity to do this.

Why did you choose Kendal College?
I’m from Dalton-in-Furness so Kendal isn’t the closest college to me, but compared to others in the local area and beyond it’s the best college and well worth the bus journey.

Is College like you had expected. If not, why?
I was worried about being bored when I started the course or struggling to make friends as I’m an older student. In reality the course has really pushed me and allowed me to develop myself further. All the other students and course tutors are really friendly and I’ve made some really good friends during the course.

What opportunities have you had as a student at the College?
We go on lots of trips and have the opportunity for work placement. This has been really valuable to me in developing new skills and learning about industry in our area.

What is the teaching style like on your course?
The teaching is very varied, we do a combination of lecture style learning, group activities and independent research tasks.

How would you describe your College experience so far?
I’ve really enjoyed the course, I’ve learnt a lot and been able to develop myself further.

What are you hoping to do after College?
The course has prepared me for all available options. I can choose between university, apprenticeships and employment and have a place to study politics at Leeds University.

If you could give one piece of advice to people considering College, what would it be?
College has opened so many doors for me and given me opportunities that sixth form never could have done. I really recommend college, just take every opportunity that comes your way.
