Course Studied: Sport Level 3

What was it like being a student at Kendal College?
I loved being a student at the college, the tutors give you a lot of freedom to complete your work however they are always on hand to give you help if it is needed. Doing a full-time course but only being in college three days a week was also very handy as it meant that I could earn money at the same time as studying.

What are you doing now?
I am currently going into my third year at Durham University studying Sport, Exercise and Physical Activity.

How did the college prepare you for what you’re doing now?
College helped me prepare for university life as the tutors gave me a great deal of independence to get on with my work and hand it in on time, this is just like life at university as it is down to you to get the work done. However, they were always there to help if I was struggling with a certain piece of work.

What was the most enjoyable part of your course?
The most enjoyable part of studying sport was the opportunities we got to go into the community and try out sports that I wouldn’t have necessarily tried in my everyday life. A good example of this was playing squash at Kendal Squash club and golf at Carus Green.

Where do I see myself in 5 years time?
In 5 years time I see myself working for Adidas hopefully working with sponsored athletes.

Would I recommend studying at college?
I would 100% recommend studying at Kendal College. After dropping out of sixth form, college opened so many doors for me and gave me the opportunity to gain high qualifications and attend a university of my choice. Without college I’m not sure what I would currently be doing right now.

If you could give one piece of advice to people considering College, what would it be?
If I could give one piece of advice to future and current students it would be to set yourself an aim of what grade you want to achieve and work as hard as you can to achieve that grade. I set myself a target at the start of my first year to achieve triple distinction star and that is what I achieved at the end of the two years. Looking back, it is one of the best things I have ever done.
