Matthew studied Level 3 Animal Management at Kendal College, where he developed a strong foundation in animal care and a clear ambition to progress into higher education. After completing his studies at Kendal, Matthew went on to study Bioveterinary Sciences at the University of Lancashire, continuing his passion for animal welfare and scientific research.
During his degree, Matthew conducted an award‑winning research project at the University of Lancashire School of Veterinary Medicine titled Equine Echo Chambers: The Effects of Noise Levels on the Behaviour of Daytime Stabled Riding School Horses. This work earned him the Royal Society of Biology (RSB) Degree Accreditation Award, including the RSB Top Project Award for the university.
In recognition of this achievement, Matthew attended the Royal Society of Biology Degree Accreditation Awards ceremony at the Palace of Westminster, representing both Kendal College and the University of Lancashire. The event, held at the Houses of Parliament, celebrated excellence in biological sciences education and research, marking a significant milestone in Matthew’s academic journey.
Having progressed from Kendal College to university and back again, Matthew has now returned to Kendal College as a tutor, bringing his academic experience, industry knowledge and passion for animal care back to the next generation of students. His journey is a proud example of the progression opportunities available to Kendal College students and the impact that dedication and hard work can achieve.
