It is never too late to follow your dreams, the college really treat you as adults with an understanding that life outside of college is also important. Enjoy every moment, because it goes so fast.

Why did you choose Kendal College?

I chose to come to college because I had always known I wanted to be a midwife, even from a young age. I had previously studied at the college to become a Teaching Assistant, but I knew this wasn't truly what I wanted to do. So, in May 2023, I applied for the Access to Health & Human Sciences course, and that's where the journey began. I knew I had made the right decision.

What was the best part about studying with us?

I met some of the most amazing people, who I know will be friends for a lifetime. I have also learnt so much from doing this course. At school, I never enjoyed science, but upon starting college, the tutors really sparked my interest and made me fall in love with Biology, which I never thought I would say! College taught me so much academically, including learning how to reference (which is not easy at all!), but it also helped me grow as a person.

What were your most memorable moments?

The most memorable moments for me are the friends I made at college (with whom I am continuing the journey to university) and receiving my first distinction in a unit I struggled the most with.

How did the tutors support you during your studies?

The tutors supported me throughout college, including with my university application, writing a personal statement, and my assignments. I have learnt so much from them, and I will be forever grateful for their support—even now as I start university! I won't lie; this course was full-on, cramming a full-time course into nine months! The tutors gave me so much advice and support throughout the course, allowing me to truly believe in myself.

What advice would you give potential students thinking of studying at Kendal College?

It is never too late to follow your dreams, the college really treat you as adults with an understanding that life outside of college is also important. I have completed this course with all units at a distinction and this really could not have been done without the help of the tutors and the college. For that I will be forever grateful.

One piece of advice I would give is give it your all, if you have dreams, go for it! The tutors will back you all the way. I thank my tutors for pushing me to my true potential and always believing in me. I strongly believe that you get out what you put in, so give it your all! I started college knowing that I wanted to progress in my career to become a midwife, and this course helped me progress to the University of Cumbria to study midwifery! I am so thankful to the tutors and all the staff at Kendal College for their support!
