College course completed: English & Maths GCSE, Access to Higher Education: Health and Human Science

What was it like being a student at the College?
It was a fantastic part of my education, and everyone was friendly and helpful. At first, I found it so hard and thought I was going to fail, but my tutor and teaching staff supported me every step of the way resulting in one merit and the rest distinctions, which I never dreamed I could achieve!

What are you doing now?
Since leaving college, I started a job at Westmorland General Hospital as a Clinical Support Worker. However, I am due to leave that post in August to carry on with my studies at the University of Cumbria, doing a degree in Adult Nursing.

How did the College prepare you for what you’re doing now?
Specifically for my degree, 'Essential Skills' helped me with filling out applications and my university personal statement. They are extremely valuable skills!

What is the most enjoyable part of your course?
It was meeting other students with the same goals that I have. We all looked after each other and supported and helped each other complete tricky assignments.

Where do you see yourself in five years’ time?
As a nurse specialising in Oncology.

Would you recommend studying at Kendal College (and why)?
I would recommend Kendal college on the basis that everyone is treated as an individual and treated like an adult, it's not like school. Tutors all show fantastic support and will help you succeed.

If you could give one piece of advice to people considering College, what would it be?
Never give up on your dream, if you want something so badly you will get there, determination and hard work pay off. I have dyslexia I never thought it could happen to me, but working hard and chasing for six years on and off study and am finally here. In three years time, I will be a nurse!
