In my early 20's I decided that I wanted to explore other opportunities with my career. I knew that I wanted to continue to be employed and earn a wage and a priority for me was to gain recognised qualifications in my chosen subject area. Having looked into Apprenticeships, I decided that an Apprenticeship involving Customer Service and Business Administration would be the best option for me!
I worked at Lakeland Arts as Visitor Experience Apprentice, and within this time I gained a Level 2 Customer Service NVQ and also a wealth of experience. This year I completed a Level 3 Business Administration BTEC at Kendal College working across a variety of departments, learning and understand more about how the College works. I think Apprenticeships are fantastic! I have had the support of my work colleagues and assessor, and I have always felt that I have fit into the team from day one! Not only have I achieved more than I thought I would, but my confidence has also grown throughout my journey.
I secured employment at North Yorkshire County Council providing Business Administration services to employees within the council and the public. I started working in the Recruitment team where I offered advice, support and guidance through the various stages of recruitment. Recruiting the right people with the right skills at the right time is essential to maximising service delivery and performance. I was also responsible for setting up new employees on the payroll system and issuing contracts. I’m now the Business Support Officer assisting with the implementation of a new recruitment system! Looking back, I am glad that I took the route of not only one but two Apprenticeships as I have enjoyed every moment. I know that I have the skills and ability to be a success in a career that I love!
