Bee studied Theatre & Event Technology with us. She then moved to London and is now a full-time Assistant Stage Manager.
I was so shy and had no self-confidence when I started college, but once I found something I was truly passionate about, I started to flourish. I completed three years at Kendal College, which I can honestly say were the best years of my life.
What was it like being a student with us?
I completed 3 years at Kendal College, which I can honestly say were the best years of my life. I began my studies at Kendal College on the Performing Arts course, which led me to find the backstage world and moved me into studying Theatre and Event Technology. Having the opportunity and support to work so closely and positively with like-minded people and finally seeing our hard work come to life was so rewarding! I can’t thank my tutors enough- helping to make my wildest dreams come true.
How did you make the transition to university?
I had never thought about University, but after speaking to people in and around college, I decided to apply. It was such a scary change, and I moved to London to further my career and education. However, Uni didn't work out for me. I completed my first year but decided not to continue. I had been working in the West End throughout my first year, so I knew I could develop my career without a degree and realised that this was my best option. Over the summer, I worked full time as a follow spot and got some experience as an Assistant Stage Manager (ASM,) which ended up kick-starting my career! Shortly after, I was offered a full-time ASM position on a national tour, and, very quickly, was given the role as Assistant Stage Manager for Heathers- The Musical in the West End. I've now worked on shows such as Eugenius and The Drifters Girl, worked the Edinburgh Fringe and have multiple West End credits!
What advice would you give a potential student considering studying with us?
My experiences and opportunities feel surreal, and I still pinch myself daily! I’m currently in my dressing room writing this?! My biggest piece of advice would be to follow your heart. People have set ideas of how they have to go through life, but things don’t always turn out that way. Do what you want to do, and don't think about others' opinions - trust yourself and enjoy it!
