Whilst studying Film Production, Ash worked as a barista to help with his travel costs. At university, he worked in a coffee shop in London, which gave him an insight into the speciality coffee industry. He was head hunted to work as a barista trainer, and then moved to another business as a sales and training manager, where he started roasting coffee. Ash and his friend Jonathan then decided to become business partners and start their own company.

Kendal College September 2023 3551

College really helped me to develop my confidence. The communication skills that I gained through the Film Production course helped me to develop into a more sociable person and now support my ability to pitch ideas successfully.

What skills did you develop whilst studying at Kendal College?

I started college as a very nervous young man. I have Asperger’s syndrome and needed the lease of life of going to college, experiencing new things, and going outside my comfort zone. I developed my confidence, learnt how to pitch ideas, and gained skills in graphic design & creative programming. When setting up this company, we were able to design our own website and expand our brand materials.

What do you like best about your job?

The things that I like about my job are variety, great environment and true passion. There is no one day that’s the same here, I love meeting people in our Kendal shop and working with our trade partners from Carlisle to Preston.
