With GCSE results day fast approaching, Kendal College is encouraging young people and their families to take time to explore all of their post-16 options and choose the pathway that is right for them.
Whether you’re considering A-levels, T Levels, Alternative Academic Qualifications (AAQs), vocational courses or apprenticeships, there is still time to make an informed decision before September.
Kendal College Principal and CEO Jason Turton believes choosing what comes next should be about finding the environment where you can thrive, rather than simply following the crowd.
Choosing what to do after Year 11 is one of the biggest decisions a young person will make, and it’s important that decision is based on where they want their future to take them, not simply on what’s familiar or where everyone else is going. For some students, that might be staying at school. For others, it could be joining a college, beginning an apprenticeship or following a technical route. The important thing is that they take the time to explore every option and choose the environment where they will thrive.

Kendal College works closely with local schools and careers leaders throughout the year, helping young people understand the full range of opportunities available so they can make confident decisions based on their interests, strengths and future ambitions.
Students joining the college can choose from more than 20 A-level subjects alongside T Levels, AAQs, vocational qualifications and apprenticeships, making it one of the broadest Level 3 offers in the region.
Located in the heart of Kendal, the college’s dedicated Westmorland Campus provides a vibrant learning environment for Level 3 students, combining the independence of a sixth form experience with the wider opportunities, specialist facilities and support available within a college setting.
The college’s recent positive Ofsted inspection recognised its warm and collegiate culture, with inspectors praising learners as “polite, respectful and motivated to succeed”. The report also highlighted the supportive environment created by staff, helping students overcome barriers and achieve their goals.

There is still time for young people and their families to ask questions, visit colleges and make sure they feel confident in the decision they’re making for September. We’re proud to offer an environment where learners are supported to succeed, whether their ambition is university, an apprenticeship or employment. What matters most is that every student chooses the pathway that gives them the best opportunity to achieve their own goals.
