Construction

“It is good for the soul to create with our hands.” This is probably why some trade workers, including those working in construction, plumbing and electricity, are some of the happiest in the UK according to a new survey.

Course Overview

This course is designed to equip you with the basic skills in plumbing and heating.

You will learn about health and safety, plumbing science, plumbing processes, cold and hot water, central heating, sanitation and other subjects related to the industry.

On the Level 3 programme you will study more advanced subjects such as environmental technology.

All of our learners will be given support with their English and Maths skills where relevant to their main programme. Those students who have not yet achieved a 'C' grade at GCSE in these subjects will continue to work towards these important qualifications at a level suited to them.

The course has been designed to contribute to providing evidence of occupational competence to enable progression to a level 3 qualification, or an apprenticeship.

The main subjects you will take are:

11 theory units with unit assessment and end exam, including:

- Health and Safety
- Plumbing Science
- Plumbing & Heating Processes
- Cold and hot water
- Central heating
- Sanitation
- Sheet lead
- Electrical & Scientific Principles

Continual assessment of both theoretical and practical work - assessment is based on candidates showing what they can do.

Practical assessment is a portfolio of assessment projects that need completing. These use a range of materials including copper, steel, sheet lead and plastics.

All exams are online multiple choice questions.

Entry Requirements

You should normally have four GCSEs at Grade 3 or above, including Maths or English.

Adult students may be accepted without formal qualifications.

All applicants are interviewed and accepted on an individual basis.
