Course Overview

These qualifications are for those wishing to gain some understanding and some practical experience of the variety of trades in the Construction industry. This course will offer you an excellent foundation in a variety of general construction subjects, such as carpentry and joinery, plumbing, electrical and brickwork. You will cover the theory behind trades as well as practical skills. Following successful completion of the course and subject to entry requirements, you should be able to progress and specialise in the trade of your choice on a course at a higher level.

All of our learners will be given support with their English and Maths skills where relevant to their main programme. Those students who have not yet achieved a 'C' grade at GCSE in these subjects will continue to work towards these important qualifications at a level suited to them.

This qualification is a stepping stone for learners who are interested in the construction industry and who wish to gain a broader view of the different trade areas. The course will enable you to develop practical skills in carpentry and joinery, brickwork, bending copper pipe and jointing, plastic tube and fittings, steel pipe and fittings, a range of hand and power tools including how to prepare use and maintain them.

You will also develop knowledge skills in: health and safety in the workplace, construction technology, estimating and finding quantities and communicating with others.

This qualification is assessed through the building of a photographic portfolio of practical work that you have undertaken and completed.
