Abbi studied Level 3 Extended Diploma In Business and Level 3 CIPD with us and is now a Degree Apprentice on the Project Management Scheme at BAE Systems.
I would tell anyone thinking of studying at Kendal College to go for it. There is so much support which allows you to perform and be as successful as possible whilst at college. The best advice from me is to take every opportunity offered to you with both hands. There are some brilliant networking opportunities. This will allow you to grow as a person and it will get your name out there so future employers can recognise you.
Why did you choose to study with us?
I chose to come to Kendal College to get know new people out of the area that I live in. I met some lovely people whilst on my course. My tutors were lovely and taught me a lot of business knowledge, as well as interpersonal skills I could have utilised anywhere in my career. The course gave me the business knowledge I needed, in order for me to apply this within the workplace. The college environment was very welcoming which allows you to thrive and be the best version of yourself when studying. Everyone was very accommodating and would go above and beyond to help you achieve the grades you wanting at the end of your course.
Did you know what you wanted to do in the future, when choosing your course?
When studying at Kendal College I had an idea about where I wanted to be when I left. My aspirations were to work for BAE Systems in Barrow. I knew what grades they were expecting me to achieve which gave me a good focus point to do well at college. The College were also very good at organising guest speakers, which meant I could engage with the business before applying. 1 year later, I am now a Degree Apprentice on the Project Management Scheme at BAE Systems and I am loving every minute.
What was your most memorable part of being a student with us?
I had a lot of fun at College. The most memorable for me was going to Luban in Liverpool to go and see how the business functioned. After this, we had to come up with our own business plan and pitch it to the Partners of Luban. This was a lot of fun. I was also a Student Ambassador which opened up a lot of opportunities for me and allowed me to attend a lot of different events. This helped me network with as many people as possible whilst studying at Kendal College. We were also taken on a trip to look around Old Trafford. This was a lot of fun!
