Abbi studied Level 3 Extended Diploma in Business and Level 3 CIPD with us and is now a Degree Apprentice on the Project Management Scheme at BAE Systems.

I would tell anyone considering studying at Kendal College to go for it. There is so much support that allows you to perform and be as successful as possible while at college. My best advice is to take every opportunity offered to you with both hands. There are some brilliant networking opportunities. This will allow you to grow as a person and get your name out there so future employers can recognise you.

Why did you choose to study with us?

I chose to come to Kendal College to get to know new people from outside my area. I met some lovely people whilst on my course. My tutors were lovely and taught me a lot of business knowledge and interpersonal skills I could have utilised anywhere in my career. The course gave me the business knowledge I needed to apply it within the workplace. The college environment was very welcoming, allowing you to thrive and be the best version of yourself when studying. Everyone was very accommodating and would go above and beyond to help you achieve the grades you wanted at the end of your course.

Did you know what you wanted to do in the future when choosing your course?

When studying at Kendal College, I had an idea about where I wanted to be when I left. I aspired to work for BAE Systems in Barrow. I knew what grades they expected me to achieve, which gave me a good focus point to do well in college. The College were also very good at organising guest speakers, which meant I could engage with the business before applying. One year later, I am now a degree apprentice on the project management scheme at BAE Systems, and I love every minute.

What was your most memorable part of being a student with us?

I had a lot of fun in college. The most memorable for me was going to Luban in Liverpool to see how the business functioned. After this, we had to devise our own business plan and pitch it to the Partners of Luban. This was a lot of fun. I was also a Student Ambassador, which opened up many opportunities for me and allowed me to attend many different events. This helped me network with as many people as possible whilst studying at Kendal College. We were also taken on a trip to look around Old Trafford. This was a lot of fun!

What advice would you give to potential students thinking of studying with us?

I would tell anyone considering studying at Kendal College to go for it. So much support allows you to perform and be as successful as possible whilst at college. The best advice is to take every opportunity with both hands. There are some brilliant networking opportunities. This will allow you to grow as a person, and it will get your name out there so future employers can recognise you. This helps when going into the workplace as you have the basic skills to be professional with colleagues, and you know how to conduct yourself within the business environment. Lastly, just enjoy college! It is a brilliant experience that I would recommend to anyone wanting to better themselves and set themselves up for their future careers.
