Kendal College annual bus passes are available to full-time students.

The bus pass gives Monday-Friday travel from Home to and from College during term time. As we are a small college, we, unfortunately, cannot provide services to meet everyone’s needs, but we hope our provision continues to benefit the majority of our students.

The below summarises the provision in the different areas:

Areas with Stagecoach public services

If you live in an area where Stagecoach public services operate, the pass entitles you to travel on all Stagecoach buses to & from the College (including connections).

Lancaster - Heysham - Morecambe - Carnforth

Students from this area can use public Stagecoach buses between home and College, as well as using the dedicated 955 service. The 955 operates in the morning, providing a fast direct connection to Kendal.

For 2018/19, we will be increasing the capacity of the bus to a double-decker. In the afternoon, students can use the regular public buses which connect to the Morecambe area, e.g. 555, 755 & 5. The 955 timetable will be uploaded here shortly.

Eden & Sedbergh travel

We have worked hard to ensure transport is available to the majority of our students living in Eden and South Lakes. The following services will continue to run in 2018/19, with one-morning service and one-afternoon service. They will be provided by Stagecoach and will continue to be available to both students and the public.

506 – Appleby to Kendal via Penrith, Shap and Tebay - click here for the timetable.

502 – Brough to Kendal via Kirkby Stephen and Sedbergh - click here for the timetable. It is possible to purchase daily tickets from the driver (rather than buy an annual pass). The fare tables will be uploaded here shortly.

Cost of an Annual Bus Pass

The College subsidises the cost of the bus pass and asks for a contribution towards the cost. We have had to increase the contribution for 2018/19 due to rises in transport costs.

  • For the Stagecoach Public Services and the 955, we ask for a contribution of £556 (which works out as £16 per week).
  • For the Eden 506/ 502 Service, we ask for a contribution of £700 (which works out as £20 per week).

Payments can be made in full or spread over four payments. For the Eden services, it is also possible to buy a weekly ticket on the bus.

If paying for a pass could be a problem, please apply to our Bursary/Learner Support Funds. Many of our students are eligible for a free bus pass through these funds, which are available to students in low-income households and/or in financial hardship.
