Job Title: Lecturer – Creative Media Production & Technology (Games Design)

Permanent part time role 25.9 hours per week (0.7fte)

Actual pay £17,640- £22,292 depending on qualifications and experience.

Pay Scale: L1 points 23-31 £25,199 to £31,845 depending upon qualifications and experience

We are looking for a part time games design tutor to join a team based at the campus of Creative and Media Industries, Kendal. We would expect the successful candidate to have a range of experiences in the interactive media/digital games arena. Industry experience is desirable (but not essential) along with the ability to identify current trends and evolving technologies in the industry and the application to the teaching and learning environment.

Your main responsibilities will be to work to support students to design and develop games.

This will include preparation, teaching, assessment, as well as student support and administration.

Technical skills – we are interested in hearing from applicants with combinations of the following skills but will consider an applicant who may meet some but not all of the following:

  • Unity, Unreal Engine and basic scripting skills
  • Blender or Autodesk Maya for 3D modelling and animation
  • Skilled and knowledgeable in Adobe Creative Cloud
  • Unity for 2D & 3D game production using C#
  • Drawing and 2D Art skills
  • Experience with Photoshop - concept art/textures for games
  • Game design industry planning and research skills
  • Visual scripting/basic programming skills

The successful candidate will be capable of sharing their knowledge with our students in an engaging and informative manner that befits their passion for the subject. Teaching experience is desirable, but we are looking for someone with the confidence to share their experience and knowledge with our students - we would provide support for gaining a formal teaching qualification alongside your work with us.

Job Requirements - The Right Candidate will have:

Qualifications – Essential

  • Recognised teaching qualification or be willing to obtain within 2 years of appointment
  • English and Maths at Level 2 (GCSE A* to C or equivalent.

Qualifications - Desirable

  • A degree or equivalent qualification in the related discipline
  • Level 3 Qualification in the relevant discipline

Experience – Essential

Experience of working with some of the following:

  • Unity, Unreal Engine and basic scripting skills

  • Skilled and knowledgeable in Adobe Creative Cloud

  • Effective communication skills
  • Effective presentation skills
  • Effective use of ILT to promote teaching and learning and monitor learning
  • Comprehensive current technical knowledge and skills commensurate with the required vocational delivery

Knowledge/Skills – Desirable

  • Graphic Production (Photoshop, Animation, InDesign etc.)
  • Software development or game design
  • Good general knowledge of health and safety at work in an educational and the relevant vocational environment
