Course Overview

T-Levels bring together academic knowledge with practical experience.

The course will give you the knowledge, skills and behaviours needed to progress into this sector.

T-Level summary:
- Two-year courses
- Equivalent to 3 A-Levels
- Worth up to 168 UCAS points (Triple Distinction*).
- Created alongside employers
- Includes an extended industry placement (315 hours minimum)
- Supports progression into university and a career in the industry

Completing a T-Level qualification at Kendal College will allow you to learn and develop professional skills and knowledge and a positive perspective on working in the hairdressing industry. Learn from highly qualified lecturers in a commercial salon environment with access to well-known professional manufacturers. Develop knowledge and understanding of relevant and current industry legislation and business practices.

You can work in well-equipped and industry-standard commercial environments using international manufacturer brands, including Wella, GHD, Bespoke Aroma and Wahl.

Learn from highly educated and industry professional lecturers who continue developing their skills and knowledge to stay current and up to date with emerging trends.

Meaningful Work Placements
The college has strong links with local employers who provide excellent opportunities for work placement in well-established salons, barber shops and spas.

The core content for each T-Level includes:
- Business context
- Regulation and legislation
- Sales and marketing
- Build a collection of looks demonstrating your practical abilities and skills across a wide range of services.
- Consultation and analysis

You will also learn about topics specific to Hairdressing, including:
- Colour Conversion
- Colour Correction Conversion
- Creative Cutting

You will also learn about topics specific to Barbering, including:
- Creative and precision cutting techniques
- Cut facial hair using precision techniques
- Provide bespoke shaving services

You will also learn about topics specific to Beauty Therapy, including:
- Provide Hand, Nail and Foot services
- Provide a range of hair removal service
- Perform manual and technical advanced treatments
- Makeup, including enhancement of eyelashes

Assessment
Assessment is via practical & academic-based assignments, examinations and the production of a portfolio.

Further Opportunities
The department organises a variety of guest speakers throughout the year and a range of trips to Wella Manchester, Edinburgh and an international trip to Paris.

Awarding Body
This qualification is awarded by VTCT.

Entry Requirements

This qualification is designed for students aged 16-18.



5 GCSEs at Grade 4 or above (including Maths and English), or a level 2 diploma or NVQ in a related field with a merit or distinction.

After Your Course

After this T-Level, you could:
- Progress onto a level 3 programme of study
- Diversify into a related sector.
- Move into self employment
- Set up a business

Courses fees

Level 3-6 Courses

Advanced Learning Loans are available for students aged 19 or over and studying eligible level 3, 4, 5 & 6 courses. If you are on an Access course, the loan will be written off if you complete a degree.

You may qualify for financial support to cover the cost of a Level 3 qualification if you do not already have a Level 3 qualification (this will depend on the course & your age on 31/08/23).

A-Levels

The fees displayed are for the one-year AS-Level course. If you would like to progress onto the full A-Level, please get in touch with us for the cost of the second year, as it will be different.

16-18 year olds

There are no course fees if you were aged 16-18 on 31/08/23 and are not studying at another institution.
