Course Overview

Recording and releasing your own music is more accessible than ever. This course will give you the essential skills to start recording your own or others' music in a studio or home environment.

Over the 17-week course, you will be taught how to use industry-standard recording hardware and Studio One recording software in our professional studio and also in our digital Mac suite. Using audio and MIDI tracks, you will record, mix and master your own chosen compositions.

The aim is to finish the course with a well-produced music product for promotional or personal use.

You will also receive a Level 1 Award in Music Technology (QCF).

Lessons will cover:

- Recording techniques, microphone positioning, setting levels and playback
- Using digital audio workstations (DAWs)
- Adding effects and EQ
- Mixing recordings
- Using Mastering presets
-Uploading to online music platforms.


There is no formal examination element to this course. You will be assessed via a portfolio of work produced throughout the course, observations and a written log.

Entry Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for this course.

Having some experience of writing or performing music is a plus when starting the course, but it is not essential. Someone looking to enter the world of studio engineering will get as much from this course as a singer/songwriter. A keen interest in music and being open to a variety of genres will also be of benefit.

Fees

£225.00

Course fees are per year. The current fee information is related to the 2018/19 academic year and is subject to change before the start of the course. Fees for 2019/20 will be updated in the Spring Term. There may also be additional costs associated with the course.

This course is funded by the government and may be free if you are:

  • Aged 16-18 on 31/08/18
  • Aged 19-23 on an Entry Level or Level 1 course with intent to progress to a Level 2 course
  • Aged 19-23 on your first full Level 2 or Level 3 course
  • Aged 19-23 on your first Level 4 course (if you haven’t already got a Level 3 qualification)
  • Aged 19+ on Functions Skills or GCSE English or Maths
  • Unemployed and in receipt of JSA/ESA(WRAG)/Universal Credit or another eligible state benefit
  • Member of a low income household & in financial hardship on an Entry Level, Level 1 or Level 2 course
