Health & Social Care

It is clear that the UK’s health and social care system is struggling, and with an increasingly ageing population, there is a significant demand for more people to enter the industry. In fact, around two million new workers will need to be trained and recruited by 2022.

Course Overview

This course will introduce you to caring and working with both children and adults. It will allow you to develop a basic knowledge and understanding of the care sector.

Work experience will be included for suitable candidates.

This course usually takes place over 3 days per week.

All of our learners will be given support with their English and Maths skills where relevant to their main programme. Those students who have not yet achieved a 'C' grade at GCSE in these subjects will continue to work towards these important qualifications at a level suited to them.

Over the course of the year you will study a range of modules including:

- Introduction to the Caring Sector

- Keeping children and adults safe

- Promoting healthy eating and care

- Creative and leisure activities

- Communication skills

- Physical and emotional needs

You will develop your communication and employability skills in preparation to work in the care sector.

A variety of types of assessment will be used. These include blogs, creating leaflets, posters and presentations.

Role play will be a key form of assessment to support communication skills.

Entry Requirements

You need to demonstrate that you are working at Entry Level 3/GCSE Level 1 (or above) in Maths and English. An interview will be required, and initial assessments/transition visits may form part of the offer process.

If you have taken an alternative educational route and wish to discuss entry to this programme, please contact the college to discuss your individual circumstances.

After Your Course

Once you have achieved this course you may be able to progress onto the Level 2 Diploma in Children's Care, Learning and Development or a Level 2 Diploma in Health and Social Care. A tutor reference along with good attendance and punctuality will be required for progression.
