Course Overview
These qualifications are for those wishing to gain some understanding and practical experience of the variety of trades in the Construction industry. This course will offer you an excellent foundation in various general construction subjects, such as carpentry and joinery, plumbing, electrical and brickwork. You will cover the theory behind trades as well as practical skills. Following successful completion of the course and subject to entry requirements, you should be able to progress and specialise in the trade of your choice on a course at a higher level.
Our learners will be given support with their English and Maths skills relevant to their main programme.
This qualification is a stepping stone for learners interested in the construction industry and who wish to gain a broader view of the different trade areas. The course will enable you to develop practical skills in carpentry and joinery, brickwork, and plumbing (bending copper pipe and jointing, a range of hand and some power tools, including preparing, using, and maintaining them).
You will also develop knowledge skills in health and safety in the workplace, and construction technology.
This qualification is assessed by building a photographic portfolio of practical work that you have undertaken and completed.
Entry Requirements
You need to demonstrate that you are working at Entry Level 3/GCSE Level 1 (or above) in Maths and English. An interview will be required, and initial assessments/transition visits may form part of the offer process.

After Your Course
This qualification meets the needs of the learners who work or would like to work in the construction industry. It allows learners to learn, develop and practice the skills required for employment or career progression in the construction sector.

Entry Level, Level 1 & Level 2 Courses
You may qualify for financial support to cover the cost of a government-funded qualification if any of the below apply to you:
- Have an annual salary of less than £18,525
- Receive an eligible means-tested benefit e.g. JSA, ESA or Universal Credit
- Are aged 16-18 on 31/08/22 and are not studying at another school/college
- Are aged 19 or over on 31/08/22 and do not already have a Level 1, 2 or 3 qualification
- Have a household income under £35,000 and are in financial hardship
