Course Overview
Local artist Graham Watson will be teaching this broad 14-week course. You will take part in tutor led workshops, these will introduce you to a variety of drawing, painting and printmaking techniques that you will be able to use in variety of projects during and after the course.
The course is ideal for anyone with a developing interest in Art, looking to learn and build skills and confidence, and open to trying different media. The course will also help you to understand how to work through a creative project. You will have the opportunity to learn in a supportive and friendly environment how to draw in different ways with mediums such as charcoal, inks and graphite. Experiment with different painting techniques and work confidently within our print studio to create mono, lino and drypoint prints.
You will be given the opportunity at points during the course to develop your own response to the project themes provided. This will involve artist research, experimentation with media, and the opportunity to revisit the techniques you have enjoyed the most to produce and evaluate a final piece of artwork.
You will be working towards a Level 2 UAL Award in Art & Design.
You will be assessed via a portfolio of work produced throughout the course. This will include loose drawings, sketchbook work and a written evaluation. The work you submit will be assessed at a Pass, Merit and Distinction level.
The course fee includes a workshop fee of GBP20, which covers the use of resources and materials.

The fee displayed is the course fee. Course fees are per year for full-time & degree-level courses, and per course for part-time courses.

Courses Fees
The current full-time & degree-level fee information is related to the 2021/22 academic year and is subject to change before the start of the course. Fees for 2022/23 will be updated in the Spring Term 2022. There may also be additional costs associated with the course.
Entry Level, Level 1 & Level 2 Courses
You may qualify for financial support to cover the cost of a government-funded qualification if any of the below apply to you:
- Have an annual salary of less than £18,525
- Receive an eligible means-tested benefit e.g. JSA, ESA or Universal Credit
- Were aged 16-18 on 31/08/22 and are not studying at another school/college
- Were aged 19 or over on 31/08/22 and do not already have a Level 1 or 2 qualification
- Have a household income under £25,000 and are in financial hardship
