Course Overview

Our Photography Level 3 course is an exciting course aimed at helping you discover a creative direction as a photographer, this advanced course caters for a wide range of professional pathways such as:
- Web and Graphic Designers, Musicians, Film Makers, Fashion Designers, or anyone with a good working knowledge of photography who would like to develop their skills

The course focuses on developing your knowledge of creative process and your ability to initiate and manage self-directed photography projects with a clear purpose and meaning. With access to our Photographic Studio and Mac suite you will develop location & studio photography skills, extend your visual skills, develop your ideas, and analyse and review your work from technical and aesthetic perspectives.

Photographic forms may include the following, depending on the students' aims, preferences and ambitions:
- Documentary/ Photo journalism
- Advertising/ Propaganda
- Family/ Commercial
- Fine Art/ Conceptual
- Recording
- Formal/ Metaphoric

The course will be delivered through demonstrations and hands-on practical tasks with tutor support; coupled with student-led, self-motivated projects shot to specific agreed briefs.

During the course you will work toward a UAL Level 3 Award in Photography, completing two assessed units that will be part of two extended location based projects. This qualification is assessed through online coursework, which involves some written elements. There are no exams. This course will involve regular personal study outside the class, including up-loading course work and project photography for on-line assessment and/or feedback.

Students who have completed this course have gone on to have successful careers as professional photographers working within fashion, editorial, landscape, portrait and wedding photography.

Entry Requirements

A Level 2 Photography Qualification, such as the BTEC, UAL Level 2 or a GCSE; or a good level of experience of taking pictures (we can help you to assess your current level of ability).

The Level 3 Course assumes a good working knowledge of the fundamental principles of photography, and the uses and functions of a camera.
You should have access to a modern DSLR camera. However, users of 35mm film SLR cameras, Range-Finder Cameras (e.g. Leicas), 'Bridge' DSLR-style cameras (e.g. Fuji Finepix) or medium format cameras will also benefit, but with limitations in some areas (e.g. film, print and scanning costs, using studio facilities with non-SLR cameras and limited camera functionality).

Material costs include:
- Film camera users: Film, developing and printing.
- Costs related to travel to complete location work.
- A USB Memory Stick, and other removable media (not more than 10 pounds).

The fee displayed is the course fee. Course fees are per year for full-time & degree-level courses, and per course for part-time courses. There may be other costs associated with this course e.g. kit, equipment, books, trips etc.

This course is not funded by the government and is full cost. As such, the course is the price stated for all students. If you are paying for your course, there may be the option to pay by instalments if the course fees are over £200 and the course duration is 15 weeks or more.
