Course Overview
A-Level English Language explores the study of English Language both as a medium of communication and as a topic in its own right, with an emphasis on the opportunity for students to pursue lines of enquiry, analyse texts produced by others and debate different views.
The course covers a variety of topics including how the language has changed and developed over time and how language can be used and manipulated for various effects, both on an individual level and also on a societal level.
The course gives students the opportunity to develop independent approaches, and to undertake paired and group work. This develops critical understanding in analysing the ways in which language changes and develops on both an individual and global scale.
The course can be taken in the following ways:
- Within KC Sixth with another two, possibly three A-Levels, tutorial and optional EPQ and Core maths
- As an 'add on' to a Full Time Level 3 Study Programme at the College, for example alongside a BTEC Extended Diploma
- As a stand-alone part-time course

Entry Requirements
The entry requirements for this course are:
5 GCSEs at Grade 5 or above (A*-C) which must include Maths.
GCSE English Language at Grade 6 (or B).

After Your Course
English Language will give you a wide range of job prospects including advertising, human resources, journalism, law, publishing, management, teaching amongst others.
Fees
There are no course fees if you will be aged 16-18 on 31/08/22, and are not studying at another institution.

Courses Fees
The current full-time & degree-level fee information is related to the 2021/22 academic year and is subject to change before the start of the course. Fees for 2022/23 will be updated in the Spring Term 2022. There may also be additional costs associated with the course.
Level 3-6 Courses
Advanced Learning Loans are available for students aged 19 or over and studying an eligible Level 3/4/5 and 6 Course. If you are on an Access course, the loan will be written off if you complete a degree.
You may qualify for financial support to cover the cost of a Level 3 qualification if you do not already have a Level 3 qualification (this will depend on the course & your age on 31/08/21).

A-Levels
The fees displayed are for the 1-year AS-Level course. If you would like to progress onto the full A-Level, please contact us for the cost of the second year as it will be different.
16-18 year olds
There are no course fees if you were aged 16-18 on 31/08/22, and are not studying at another institution.
