Course Overview
AQA's Government and Politics will enable students to develop a wide range of skills including the ability to comprehend, synthesise and interpret political information; analyse and evaluate political knowledge; identify connections, similarities and differences between the areas studied. You will select relevant material and construct and communicate arguments clearly and coherently using appropriate political vocabulary.
At AS-Level, candidates will develop a broad knowledge and understanding of the political system of the UK. At AS, the specification concentrates on People, Politics and Participation.
The course can be taken in the following ways:
- Within KC Sixth with another two, possibly three A-Levels, tutorial and optional EPQ and Core maths
- As an 'add on' to a Full Time Level 3 Study Programme at the College, for example alongside a BTEC Extended Diploma
- As a stand-alone part-time course

Entry Requirements
The entry requirements for this course are:
5 GCSEs at Grade 5 or above (A*-C) which must include Maths.
GCSE English Language at Grade 6 (or B).

After Your Course
You can continue studying at A2 and then progress to employment or university, to follow a wide range of related subjects in Social Science, Humanities and public sector careers.
Fees
There are no course fees if you will be aged 16-18 on 31/08/22, and are not studying at another institution.

Courses Fees
The current full-time & degree-level fee information is related to the 2021/22 academic year and is subject to change before the start of the course. Fees for 2022/23 will be updated in the Spring Term 2022. There may also be additional costs associated with the course.
Level 3-6 Courses
Advanced Learning Loans are available for students aged 19 or over and studying an eligible Level 3/4/5 and 6 Course. If you are on an Access course, the loan will be written off if you complete a degree.
You may qualify for financial support to cover the cost of a Level 3 qualification if you do not already have a Level 3 qualification (this will depend on the course & your age on 31/08/21).

A-Levels
The fees displayed are for the 1-year AS-Level course. If you would like to progress onto the full A-Level, please contact us for the cost of the second year as it will be different.
16-18 year olds
There are no course fees if you were aged 16-18 on 31/08/22, and are not studying at another institution.
